Forgive my ignorance. I have a 400mhz TiBook. Will a Seagate drive with Ultra ATA/100 hard drive work? I assume it's the same as IDE, but I don't like to assume anymore.

Thanks,
Tom

It will work as long as the drive it under 137GB. If it's over, you can only use the first 128GiB.

Your computer uses an older IDE controller that isn't designed to "see" anything more than 128 GB. If you buy a larger hard drive, it will only show up as 128 GB.

How "new" does a TiBook have to be to be able to use a larger hard drive? I have a 3 1/2 year old 1 GHz TiBook, and am thinking of upgrading to a 160GB drive - would it work for this 'Book?

I doubt any TiBook has a LBA48 capable controller. I don't think even some of the PowerMacs at them time of the TiBook had LBA48 capable controllers.

Searching xlr8yourmac.com there are reports from 5 users, including Aluminum PowerBooks, and from a 1 GHz Titanium Book user (like me) who report the Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160GB working fine.

Anyone here have experience in upgrading to this?
