I am starting to think the best way to get a core2duo into play is the iMac, the 24 inch it has so many advantages over the MBP. Just consider...

1. 24 inch screen
2. 250G hard drive (NOT a mere 160G as I said earlier!) or 500G Build To Order
3. Can take "a little" more memory for a total of 3G
4. Immediate delivery!
5. Easier to wait until Santa Rosa
6. Did I mention 24 inch screen? Perfect for feet-up movie viewing at 6.6 foot distance *
7. Will fit into your laptop bag (**if your laptop bag is made out of a recycled muumuu)
8. Not enough RAM for maximum professional Aperture/Photoshop performance over the next 3-5 years, so can be used to watch DVDs (see 6, above) after purchase of ultra-high-screen resolution Macbook Pro with Leopard pre-installed in Summer of 2007.

* At 3.3 multiplier for optimum viewing distance, can be used to view movies at (3.3 x 24) / 12 = 6.6 feet

** iLugger PROi24, for real!

a penny here a penny there, pretty soon you're talking two cents

Grrrrrrr, Steve is just sitting there laughing at us right now

I have to check everyday now to see if there are any updates. Waiting for new technology to come out is . I just want my new MBP so that I can run Vista and Tiger alongside each other. My company just moved to a Microsoft Exchange server because of the Direct Push Exchange support in mobile phones so it will be really nice for me to be able to run Microsoft Office 2007 and Vista in a Window alongside OS X and the new MBP's should support enough RAM/etc.. that I should have no problem doing this. I just hope Parallels/vmware comes out with some good Vista support soon.

Why can't you do this with the current MBP? The Merom version won't make a noticable amount of difference.

Ok so I was planning on buying a macbook (not pro) in the next couple of weeks, however everyone keeps saying that the new c2d chip will be released in the macbook in a couple of weeks so my questions are:
1. Is it worth waiting for?
2. Will it be available on the Macbook or just the MBP?
3. How soon is it expected to be released?

1. Only you can decide that. It is a 64 bit processor, but software that utilizes that won't be out for a while. Also, it's not true 64 bit chipset in that in it can't address more than 3 or 4GB of RAM
2. We also don't know that. The best guess would be the MBP goes first since it is professional, but then look what happened to the iMac.
3. Sometime this month or next month.

That's your decision. Basically a C2D MB will likely not be much faster than a CD MB in everyday work as long as Intel doesn't released Santa Rosa.

2. Will it be available on the Macbook or just the MBP?
Chances are if Apple goes C2D before MWSF it will on the MBP only. I wouldn't expect a C2D MB before MWSF at the earliest.

If you don't need it, you can always afford to wait. However, if you need it now, I'd get it now.

back to the topic of "why hasn't apple updated their **** yet..."

apple probably had a year or two planed out before they agreed on switching to intel, if you look at old number intel is a head of themselves i believe...

maybe apples waiting for the next... next big thing...

::of a show of hands, who has 40+ gbs of music on their computer?::

...now how many DVDs does it take to back them all up...

HD-DVD, Blu-Ray?

HDMI, WIRELESS Video Transferring?
