Hi,

I wanted to swap the 9800 pro out of a DA G4 with a 9650 out of a G5 dual 2.7. The 9800 works great in the G5 but I can't get the 9650 working. I taped the 3 and 11 pin on the card. The g4 is booting but no picture. Any suggestions

What G4 model is it? As I understand it, only the 4x AGP G4s could run a card with the tape mod

It's a DA (digital audio) originally a 466mhz. Now running on 1,47ghz with Fastmac upgrade

Hmm, thats a 4x AGP mac. I've read that certain 9600s and 9650s just didn't have the proper circuitry for the tape mod to work, but that was in various posts on other forums...never found a definitive answer, so i just bought a 9800 pro for my DA...

That's what I did to. But now I want to use the 9800 in my new (used) G5. Well if it's not going to work I'll have to flash another 9800 or just put in the old 16mb radeon. I'm not going to use the G4 for heavy stuff anymore caus I have my G5

I think so. Did it three times. But I'll give it one more try

Followed the instructions carefully but no luck. Zapped the pram. The mac is booting up. The screen stays black. I think I have a card which will not work.

i think i remember that the mother board doesnt have enough power. what monitor connector are you using? i remember seeing that the apple connectors which power the monitor aswell drain extra power, so try using a different monitor

I'm using a dvi-vga adapter. Hooked it on a sony 19 inch, dell 17 inc, philips 15 inch. All CRT. Perhaps only LCD will work?

well if it was a tape issue, I think you wouldn't get a boot up. IIRC, it causes a short that prevents the system from starting.
