After I login there is a 10 second pause before the finder loads, never did this before, seems like it started after i installed a couple gigs of mp3's ive dont the usual of rebuiling destop and zapping pram etc. nothing seems to work
Is your computer trying to establish a network connection when you aren't connected to a network (upon boot-up)? This can result in quite lengthy waits for the Finder. I just noticed you aren't talking about boot-up but rather login. I don't know if my comment applies to that scenario.

thanks guys, the problems was that there was and alias of of the powerbook that i used to tranfer the mp3's via crossover cable in the server folder, so i guess it was trying to connect to that at startup, i deleted it and that fix the problem.
