Hello all, this is my first post... Sorry if i am wrong asking

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried out the new airport udate for MBP C2D models.?

Does this update help out the intermittent dropouts of signal and connection?

I have been waiting to get the 17" for quite some time now, and the wireless problems that people have had were keeping me from purchasing..

Just applied the update on my 15" MBP C2D, which has been unable to connect to my SMC2804WBRP-G router since I bought the computer.

It hasn't changed anything: I still can't connect.

This isn't specific to the MacBook Pro. It belongs in the Networking forum along with all other networking issues (ALL of 'em!). I'll move this there because a) you're new and don't know the rules and ropes yet, and b) because this'll probably be an issue a lot of people will be interested in.

....This update killed my AirPort on my MacBook Pro C2D. It no longer thinks it has an AirPort card.

Yay.

Edit: Well, I used Pacifist to extract the older version of the kernel extension contained in the updater from my install DVD, and all is well again.

I'm glad you didn't move it. In fact, this update is really only for the C2D MBP (and C2D MB). It is designed specifically for these models since they come a new 802.11 chipset.

i did the update while at school and have tested it at home...
mine is working fine.
Macbook Pro 17...
i have not noticed a difference at all though...
i have a d-link router and always get good signal as i have a small place...
does anyone know if this update possibly added the N compatability?

That's what I want to know... I have an n router, which works with the n card in my MBP (in windows using the n capable Windows drivers)... But I need my Mac to be WiFi so I need toconfirm that this update won't bork my WiFi before I try it.

I updated my 15" 2.33 C2D machine last night. I am not wifiless by any means, so no new problems here. On the other hand, it didn't fix the problem with wifi cutting out on my now and again. That is still unfixed, and in fact seems to be slightly worse.

Over at Mac OSX Hints, they suggested a workaround is to have your machine ping your router continually so that there is steady net traffic and thus preventing the loss of connection (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...1126132814130). So this seems to be a problem that occurs when there is downtime in your net usage. And this update did NOT fix the problem on my machine. If anything, it happens more frequently now.

Applied the update, it seems to work fine.

BTW i only connect through WiFi through an airport express.

I had meant to but I got interrupted. Now I'm glad I haven't moved it. This turns out to be very specific to the MPB C2D.

Bummer for all those folks who lost functionality...

Is the new card similar to the "tri-band" b/g/"n" card in the new iMacs?

AFAIU the card is 802.11n draft compatible with the multiple antenna setup (if you open one up you will see three antenna connections) required for MIMO. OTOH I've not seen a report yet that anybody has actually managed to do n type networking with a MBP.

Hm...not sure what happened in my case, then. I used Pacifist to reinstall the IO80211Family.kext from the DVD that shipped with my MBP, and all was well again. Who knows....

That's pretty similar to the one in the new iMac... Probably similar if not VERY similar. I'd love to get the FCC ID number off of one of the new MacBook Pros-I could look it up and see what it is exactly. (Anyone can do that, by the way, I'm just curious about it.)

Obviously here they chose not to print the FCC number onto the carrier.

I tried entering the FCC ID into their database but somehow I wasn't able to get any results. Must have screwed up something.
