Just wondering which utility people suggest. Norton or Tech Tools?

from my experience tech tool has more features and is more powerful, i would go with that

i've run them both, now using techtoolpro exclusively...
both seem good at low-level fixes, optimizing the HD, etc.
my vote is techtool, but either way, a monthly diagnostic run is a good idea.

TechTool Pro for me. It's painfully slow at optimizing, but I use DiskWarrior's PlusOptimizer for that.
I stopped using Norton back when I bought it for my then new Tangerine iBook. Of course, the iBook, having a new ROM didn't work with Norton and they knew it, but wanted me to pay an upgrade fee when the new version came out. Why would I pay for software that doesn't work on my computer and then pay more for the software that does?
I eventually got a full refund and I don't use Symantec products anymore.

Really.
Norton is my favorite because I only need it to fix & optimize.
Who needs all that other stuff (that TechTool has) on a Mac??

Both are pretty useless, IMO.
If I had to pick one, it'd be TechTool - Norton software is strictly prohibited from taking up residence on my system.

TechTool is my pick. It has lots of useful/useless features. Besides that, Apple condones the use of TechTool. So, if it ****s up, Apple can't blame you for using it.
DiskWarrior I hear is also VERY good at low level maintence of the hard drive. But I have never used it.

Norton (just off the CD and no installation)... Norton detects more disk problems. As for all the other junk TechTools does, I personally feel that is more just for show.

Yeah, for disk repair, Disk Warrior is the best available. Unparalled.
You're better off with just DiskWarrior than anything else, for the rest of the garbage the others do is pretty damn useless...
