After reading the numerous reports about Apple's latest firmware update disabling third-party RAM, I'm astonished that Apple would release something after incomplete testing. In fact, might it be more likely that Apple did this on purpose? They couldn't possibly be so sloppy, could they?
I for one will not be installing this update, despite claims of improved performance, until this issue is fully resolved.
I urge all of you not to install this update unless you are sure you do not use any third-party RAM and you never expect to do so.
Meanwhile, please post any experiences with this update here.

I just installed the firmware update on my G4/400 AGP with no problems. I have 384MB of RAM -- 2 x 128 and 2 x 64 -- none of it matched, or even from the same manufacturer. One of the 128 sticks is PC133, the rest are PC 100. haha, nice config, I know 
I guess I was lucky.

Not me. I lost all but 128mb of my RAM. Thanks Apple. That's great. Hey, next time I'll do you the favor. Idiots. I started another thread for people like me who are really fu*king pissed. I would really like punch SJ in the face right now.

I installed the firmware the other day and it still recognizes my 128 MB stick of Azzenram. My profiler says that I still have 256 MB ram. From which manufacturer is the ram not being recognized from?

Jeez WDL, it's not a disaster - ease up on the hype a bit.
I read the warnings and took my ram out before I installed the firmware upgrade. I have no idea if that made any difference, but I have all my 160Mb available.
If there is some sort of problem with the firmware upgrade then it will obviously be addressed or a work-around will arise.
Patience is....well you know the rest. Everyone just try to be a bit more tolerant - we're embarking on a totaly new path with OS X.

I'm talking in terms of PR - it makes Apple look like it can't shoot straight.
A snafu like this - synchonized with the launch of a radically new OS gives
needless opportunity to the Apple critics to nay-say the capabilities of the
Mac.
It is just so needless to have happen, and at such a time.

Don't freak out here, people. Most people have run the firmware update without a hitch and I've heard several reports of increased stability, the dissappearance of networking problems and better memory performance.
Of course, since there have been a notable number of people who've had memory problems since the firmware update, I'd say it's good advice to hold off unless you're having a lot of issues right now that the firmware might fix.
