Is there any way to tell the software update control panel that you don't want to download something and to please stop bugging you about downloading it every day? It's been trying to get me to download disc burner for a couple of weeks now...I have an iBook and no nead for disc burner...

Yes. There's a preference. Or you can turn Software Update off in Extensions Manager.

This is different than the thing that pisses me off about Software update. I have DSL. I use PPoE. I therefore have to use MacPoet.

If I click "download now" then Software Update quits all programs, including MacPoet. Obviously I no longer have a PPoE connection at that point, and the download fails. What the hell is Apple thinking in its comlete lack of support for PPoE (other than the recent Airport update)? I'd even like to see Apple make some sort of acknowledgment that many people currently require MacPoet to connect to the internet, so it's not such a good idea for Apple's communications software to quit it? This is ridiculous.

Hi Orry,
In the software update control panel, there is a checkbox to "update software automatically", simply uncheck that (there is also an option to set-up the schedule if you so please). In order to do software updates in the future, you simply go to the control panel and manually update the software by clicking on the "update now" button.
