Hi, whoa havent posted in awhile.

Ok I'm coming into possession of a Dual 450 with 1.5GB of ram and a 22" Cinema that I want to set up in the living room for web and music access. My question is will it handle the web any better then my cube 450 with 640MB of ram? Will Safari take advantage of the second CPU?

It will be running Tiger BTW

Thanks

Sure -- it will work just fine for that.

The only issue may be the fans -- they may be kind of loud.

The second processor won't give you any benefit over the Cube's single processor at the same speed for web, music. But the vast amount of extra memory will help a lot.

Sure it will. OSX is dual processor aware and it will mulitask a lot better than a single CPU will.

Note the "for web and music" in my post. Surfing and listening to music won't use enough processor resources to make a noticeable difference. Ripping a CD will have a noticeable difference, if you are surfing and listening at the same time.

Seems to be some disagreement on this so when I get ahold of it I'll post my impressions of web use between the two.

Having just got hold of the 22" cinema today though I'll say its beautiful (minus a missing rear apple logo). Seems noticeably bigger then a 20" imac, more so then I thought it would.

Last time I checked...iTunes and Safari were definitely multithreaded.

That and, the whole OS just seems more responsive on Dual CPUs.

Yes. More than adequate. Can order Chinese take out and listen to the loud fan noise at the same time.

LOL I reallly dont think the fan is loud at all. but maybe its cause my place is always freezing and it doesnt need to run real hard or something

The dual 450 seems much better at multitasking. say using itunes and browsing the web. it also seems to render webpages a bit faster which is welcomed and It can run the itunes visualizer properly by using both G4's. Im sure the extra ram helps as well though. The cube ran it choppy. They both have the same shitty vidcard lol
