Hi,

Are the new glossy screens more prone to get dead pixels than the matt finish of the standard screens?

Have just picked up a new 17" MBP (my 4th Apple laptop since 2004) and for the first time I had a dead pixel when I was about to set up the computer.

Will exchange but am hesitant to get a glossy if it's going to get dead pixels more often.

Anyone knows (own experience)?

I don't think anyone will have enough experience for a meaningful comparison, but the matte screens are identical to the glossy except for an outer coating that is applied afterwards. It should have no bearing on the likelihood of dead pixels within the LCD substrate.

My own experiences, for what it's worth:
iMac G4 20": 1 dead sub-pixel
iBook G3 12": no dead pixels
iMac G5 20": no dead pixels
MBP 15": no dead pixels
Dell 24" display: no dead pixels

All the above have matte coatings.

Just for fun, I'll add:
Nintendo DS Lite (glossy): 1 stuck sub-pixel
