My Mac Pro has a problem burning Double Layer DVD's. At first, it wouldn't burn these "Matrix 8X Double Layer DVD's", and I figured it was just because it was a cheap unknown brand.
Yesterday, I got a hold of some brand new DVD+R DL, 2.4x Memorex disks.
Toast did the same thing as with the Matrix's. The disc froze half way through burning, at exactly 50%. It's as if it can't transfer to the other layer.
What's going on?

Never used the Matrix brand ( have heard of them ) , however Memorex are pure garbage. Almost all the brands of 2.4X DVD+R DL you will find are RITEKD01 media ID code ( Sony, Fuji, TDK, GQ, et al, all private label RiData/Ritek MID discs). The best discs out there are Verbatim ( Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, MID MCC001 or MKM001 ). Alternately RiData/Ritek MID code RITEKS04 claim up to 8X in Pioneer 112/212 drives.

Thanks. Whn you say "( Sony, Fuji, TDK, GQ, et al, all private label RiData/Ritek MID discs)," do you mean that those are good brands as well?
I'm gonna go with 6x Verbatim's in any case. These ones:
Verbatim 95310 DVD+R Double Layer Media 1 Pack
Thanks!

Those brands run the gamut from well respected to very poorly respected, yet the actual media are identical ( RITEKD01 MID ) aside from labeling.

I would say if it fails with one more brand of media, you have a faulty drive. Have you tried burning from the Finder or Disk Utility?
