So I was playing around with my 1 week old Macbook Pro this morning while hanging out in bed, the computer sitting on a pillow so I wouldn't burn my lap. The computer had been put to sleep all night and wasn't on AC power. I start up Photobooth and decide to take a picture. I click the picture button; it does its usual 1...2...3....SCREEN GOES BLACK. But not completely. I still see the faint outlines of the windows, and if I click somewhere I can see that the program window changes. So, obviously, it's something with the backlight. I think scary thoughts about having to take it all the way back to the Apple Store to get it repaired while I squint to see the Apple menu as I shut it down. I start it back up and the backlight is fine.

The boyfriend claims that it's because I had it on a pillow which didn't allow the heat to dissipate. I disagree (this was something I did all the time with my old Toshiba laptop), but I can't think of another answer. Any help?

It's not because of the pillow, though you shouldn't be doing that. If it happens again, take it back to the Apple store. It could be a loose connection or a bad backlight.

But just to emphasize, that doesn't make having your book on a pillow ok. Those computers already run hot. They don't need to be any hotter.
