It's time to restore Commodore 64 times from your memory back up!

What is your best memory of the Commodore 64?

I also have some fond memories of California Games, Skate or Die, SuperCycle, and Pool of Radiance. GeOS was also cool. And the RAMdrive cartridge.

I also recall a cool platform-jumper involving a stone-throwing savage and a flying suit of armor. Anyone remember the name?

I'm still in awe of the efficient distribution networks of cracked games, in offline mode, of course.

Wow, I'm feeling really nostalgic. I've played about just about every game mentioned here, and I remember typing in some of the programs included in Gazette

Yeah man it was like a Cold War thriller or drug dealing. All secret handshakes and meetings in alleys with guys who had cassettes and floppies hidden up their sleeves. Nobody used real names. I had a dealer called Codex who supplied me with the latest Amiga warez in an alley behind a computer store. Hey I was 14 and had no money. I needed my fix.

Many of those US and UK companies didn't have enough money or legal power to combat piracy in those days. In France, Spain or Italy if you went on holiday to those countries there you could go in a newspaper shop and there would be the latest games available for dirt cheap. 10 games on one cassette.

Don't forget about the Fastload cartridge. Those TSR Gold Box AD&D games were classic both Drangonlance and the Forgotten Realms editions.

No, actually. The game I'm thinking of was from a Commodore-only developer.

Here it is: Rad Warrior. EDIT: corrected the url.

I also loved this game: The Train: escape from Normandy. I'd like to see this game resurrected.

Can't believe I missed those two. All these games are downloadable from C64.COM - We adore our Commodore 64's Looks legal too. Can't find any freeware C64 emulators though just the shareware Power64.

And Power64 doesn't work on any current Macs... PPC only. It's a great emulator too. I wonder if it will ever be released in an Intel version. Can't find any news on that.

I loved a program that would vibrate the floppy drive heads at different speeds to play a song (Mary Had a Little Lamb or something similar). Had to realign the drive heads afterwards, but it was cool.

Loved playing Ultima I-IV on it!
