Owning a Zune is like ripping your heart out and stuffing it into a corpse? Count me in.

My stupid iPhone game: Nesen Probe, it's rather old, annoying and pointless, but it's free.
Was free. Now it's gone. Never to be seen again.
Off to join its brother and sister apps that could not
keep up with the ever updating iOS. RIP Nesen Probe.

At what point do creative marketing people just stop and say "Hey, maybe, just maybe this might not be getting our message across."
The Zune is just too cool to be seen. Or explained. I guess.

At first I was worried the Zune wasn't Teh Social enough but now I'm convinced it is.

Haha I only realized (kinda) the point they were attempting to get across when I read the comments.

It was basically saying that with iPods, when you share music, the music dies in both iPods. Although there is absolutely NO way to tell they were making an analogy to that, given that there is not mention of the zune, ipod or any other music player related thing until the end.

Sharing music might be fun, but soon you'll die?

Nah. I think they're saying you should die if you share music. It's a commercial from the RIAA.

It's zune-arts, short movies that are web only promotions, not a TV-commercial as such.

I'm confused. If I use a Zune, I'll die? Can't a Zune only squirt a song a few times?

You're not confused. Yes, you will die.

I really don't get why anyone would think this would make someone want to buy an mp3 player. Can someone help?

I'm guessing they still look at the original 1984 "Big Brother" ad of Apple's and believe that as probably the best computer ad ever, they need to figure out why it was so memorable. So they think "It was different and visually stimulating and had their logo at the end. It didn't show or directly talk about the product, and it was cool."
They just don't get it.
The first Zune ads I saw were themed "Join the Social." The very concept of a personal music player is anti-social. You put your headphones on and tune everybody else out. Their commercials showed large groups of people with Zunes gathered together at outdoor concerts!
They never really got across the "sharing" part very well, because I think they knew it was a lame concept (erases after 3 plays).
Geez, I don't know, but it seems they have nothing going on in their marketing department.

Are these real ads? Wow... I've seen obscure ads before, but if you didn't know exactly what a Zune was, I would almost think it was a video game.

Hey. Cool ad. I like it.
I don't see how it advertises the Zune though. Oh wait... What's this entire thread about?
Don't get the die-after-you-squirt-a-song business though.

The part of this is if you read the inspiration behind the commercial. And I quote:
"Buddhism sees death as change, not as an end but as a beginning. I really liked the idea of funeral parties having dancing and laughing instead of being black and sad with crying elderly people; to try to laugh about it instead of being scared of it. So friendship overall and also death, was the idea. Friendship is something to nose, not this life. So, today, die for a friend; he'll love it; he may die for you tomorrow...who knows."
So, M$ recommends that you die today because your friend might die tomorrow. Should I take my own life? Of course, I should buy a Zune before I do that, right?
