For youtube vids I'll usually open up the activity window in Safari, click the .flv, and the video starts downloadin (playable in VLC)

for a site I want to download from that is similar to youtube, whenever I click the .flv safari will just open up a window full of a bunch of text gibberish.

Does anyone know why this might be? And don't ask what the site is, pretty sure linking to it might get me banned

Oh c'mon.. Take one for the team, would ya? We don't mind.

It's a server issue. Try Copying the item from the Activity window list and then Pasting it into the Downloads window.

Control, control you must learn control... actually it's alt+click then it should start downloading to the download's-folder in Dock. Then you should have something like iSquint to convert it to mpg.
This is the same for most other movie-codecs files, like SWF but those imbedded will load & be saved but when played will be streamed.

it is said that VisualHub, AudialHub, and iSquint have been discontinued.
