There were several. Some were kernel previews that didn't really do much. Some used the new Finder, interface, Quickdraw GX, Open Transport etc on top of a modified System 7.5. Those betas eventually lead to Open Transport and Quickdraw GX being released for System 7.5 and the new Finder being included in OS 8.

I had the Copland beta image that was leaked. But IIRC it was insanely hard to install, and would only run on specific mac models.
