Hi All,
I am considering purchasing a 24" iMac 2.4ghz (or equivilent once the upgraded models arrive) to replace my current PC. It will mostly be for Graphic Design purposes as I have an Xbox 360 for gaming, but I do like a blast of UT2004 on my PC and was wondering if it was up to the job.
I realise there are strong opinions on the quality of the Graphics card already in the current iMac's and maybe they will be improved in the next round of updates, but if I was to buy now, would I be able to play UT2004 at decent speeds?
Also, would it be better to buy the Mac version of the game, or run it via bootcamp?
Thanks

Apple really needs to put a better video card in the iMacs.
8600GT or better in the next model would be the minimum I would accept... at least give us a BTO option, which the current model lacks.

I played UT2004 on a 2.16 MacBook Pro. It ran fine. I think you'll be just fine. I would get the mac version, unless you have other work to do in windows. It gets annoying having to jump back and forth.

Yeah don't worry about it. I play it at full resolution (1650x1280) on my 20" iMac 2.0ghz, and I have yet to see any slowdowns in frame-rates with every single graphics setting at it's highest.

While not exactly the same machine in terms of processor performance, my Mac Pro ran UT2004 beautifully at 1920x1200 and high settings with the 2600XT.

Ok thanks for the replies people. That's encouraging to know. I am holding out for the new revisions anyway, so fingers crossed for a new GFX card.

You got it.
8800GS should be a good deal faster than the Radeon 2600

Is it the 8800M GS or 8800GS?
If it's not the M, seems that Apple is pushing the power budget pretty high (55W factory overclocked CPU and desktop graphics).
