ipod models' sound quality

I read somewhere (user comment) that the bigger ipods have better sound quality? is (users opinions) this true?

The iPod classic and nano have a little better sound quality then the touch. If you just listen with the Apple earbuds you won't notice, but if you use high end equipment to listen to your iPod with, you might notice. I'm a bit of an audiophile and I can tell the difference, but it's not big enough that I want to get rid of my touch because of it. The classic puts out crisper highs and a bit stronger mid range than the touch.

Not quite, at least via Dock out. (Classic in red, 5G in blue)
The Classic has some nasty intermodulation and phase delay going on in the upper mids and high end.

Measurements
Unfortunately, only the "big" iPods are covered.
From what I gather, no other iPod ever reached the audio quality of the original iPod shuffle.

I'm surprised you can hear that differnce. My Audiofile buddy was going to get a touch but changed his mind when he found out the Touch uses a cheaper audio decoader chip than the other iPods which aperently isn't as good.
Don't know what the iPhone uses though but I would think it is the same as the touch.

According to iPodLinux, the iPod touch uses a Wolfson audio chip, which is at least the same brand used in the 5G iPod videos - which sound excellent (as I can attest).
The 6th-generation iPod classics sound a lot worse than the 5G ones do (and by inference possibly the iPod touch), and it's probably due to the inferior Cirrus D/A stage used (as per my post above).
