Anyone else playing? I'm on the Doomsayer PVP server.
I did the whole early access thing and played up to level 55 or so before the lack of quests and necessity for grinding full levels started to get to me. Now i'm taking a little break until they spruce up the later half of the game, which is coming pretty soon. It was released a little early, but it looks like it'll be maturing quite nicely throughout the summer.
I love the visuals, the combat and the overall art direction they're using. The world is more realistic looking and the armor sets are pretty savage as well, but not over the top. No cartoony stuff like in WoW. No shoulder armor that puts on laser light shows. I'm so tired of the high fantasy stuff. I don't want to see another elf or gnome again, so this is a nice change. The requirements are pretty steep but I average around 45fps on my old radeon x1900xt, on high settings.

Well, I don't think they ever planned on killing off WoW. That's pretty impossible and I think, for the foreseeable future, it'll still be top for PvE content. Lots of people despise the arena system, though, so for PvP emphasized players, I think it offers a nice alternative. That's definitely it's main focus. PvP in WoW has been pretty horrible for a while. Many people prefer world PvP over minigames, and that has been dead for quite some time.

Yeah, it's going to take a small miracle or a long time to bring down WOW. I recently read an article about the upcoming Warhammer MMO where the president of the company basically said, "No, we're not hoping it will be a WOW-killer. That would be cool, but come on, it's not going to happen right now for anybody."
BTW, I've heard the controls are annoyingly complex (like, you have to push three buttons to do one attack) in Age of Conan. Do you find that to be true?

I've not tried it but I know a handful who have. Seems like it was pretty easy to level up from what I heard.

melee combat is based on a combo system, and there's no auto attack. the combos are the special moves but you can just attack normally by hitting one of the directional swings. the combos range from 1-3 swings, so far. you still swing and attack normally during the first moves of the combo but the last hit is when you get the primary damage of the combo. it takes a little while to get used to but it becomes a non issue. their goal was to make it more involved than the auto-attack, one button special move system.
only annoying thing is that casters don't need to do anything like that to cast spells. they have the same old casting time system.

yeah, it's really fast. you can reach 80 in the first month of playing pretty easily. it's almost too fast because they still have to tweak a lot of the endgame content. but they're patching about twice a week and getting things sorted. it's only been out a month.

I haven't tried it yet but a handful of people I know are enjoying it, especially as the pvp aspects improve.

I haven't tried it but have a handful of friends who like it but they were also quite burnt out with WoW raiding so it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts.

I wonder if Randman has a handful of friends who have tried AoC...
|
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

I suspect he has a handful of friends who have played AoC. I don't think I'll bother him.

I wish I had some friends who played AoC. We could talk about them too.

I'm pretty burnt out on this game now, to be honest. I wanted to at least get to level 80 before deciding whether to keep playing, but I can't be bothered grinding out the last 11 levels. I'm pretty tired of MMOs, in general, I think. Diablo III can't come soon enough.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Warhammer. I think I could enjoy an MMORPG with a really well thought-out PVP system, which is what that sounds like that's going to be. (Then again, maybe it'll be WOW 3.0.)

I've not heard good things about Warhammer from people who've played around on it (some in the gaming industry).

Really? Interesting. I don't know anyone who's played it outside of a little bit at conventions and such. What did they say?

It's been on demo at the Games Day events that Games Workshop hosts, and I would have hopped on to play, only the line was ridiculously long. I heard a lot of good about it from the people who played though.
