I just started using music sites to find new music and musicians.
Currently I use deezer.com, which has an awful search engine (you actually need to use google to find anything there). And I learned (on another thread) that sites like spiralfrog are windows sites and bad for Mac users.
But I'm sure there are better sites on the web.
Please post your favorite music sites... and add if it is streaming or a download site and in what format.
As I still prefer buyng AIFF files via CD (can you download CD quality files from the web?) I'm looking for a place that has a wide range of music (Jazz, world music, blues...) with a good search engine.
Thanks for contributing!

Looks like nobody's listening to music on the web, huh?
Why music, if you can have porn

No, but they have links to the DRM-free (all labels) Amazon music store.
IOW, use Pandora to find new music and then buy it from Amazon.

pandora is a great concept, but falls way short of helping find new artists, IMO. there is very little variety it seems and most of the music it plays is fairly popular. at least that is what i find in seeding stations with multiple artists to get a good variety. just my experience.

Have you tried the "add more variety to this station" button?

Pandora's system of "radio stations" is very interesting.
But I also think that the choice is very small.
Like mduell, I want to use internet radio to discover new artists, and then buy it on amazon. But amazon has many, many, many more artists than Pandora.
I noticed that, too. Ali Farka Toure: one album. And this for one of the greatest guitar players of the 20th century. And they haven't even heard of Omou Sangare yet. Swiss trumpeter Hans Feigenwinter? No go. Mali singer Abdoulaye Diabate? Never heard of.
Deezer, on the other hand, has more to offer. Sometimes the search feature can't find its own hand in its own pocket, and then you need to use google to find a song, but generally it's great.

I actually hit the "new station button", you get the search screen "song or artist". Should find anything they have, shouldn't it?

You don't need a browser to listen to it, but I use http://sky.fm - just open the feeds in iTunes.

Really like Pandora now. It may not have the perfect selection, but the radio station system really rocks the world.
Their Jazz collection is good, and you can influence the generation of the playlist by ticking off favorite numbers.
