Hi everyone, I have leopard 10.5.5 and the GUI is breaking text across lines. most memorable is the login screen after a screensaver where the full stop is put onto the next line. does anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks, HBR

Sounds like a font conflict. Do you happen to have any extra copies of Helvetica or Lucida installed, maybe?

Does it still happen if you shut down and do a safe boot (hold down the shift key as you start up the Mac again and keep it held down) or safe log-in (hold down the shift key and keep it held down when you click the button to log into your account from the log-in window)?

Could it be that you have Application Enhancer or some InputManager hacks installed? This problem is truly weird.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

no hacks or anything are installed on either machine. Booting up in a different mode I havent tried yet. Any other ideas? Should I take it to a Genius or would they not be able to help? Yours, HBR

Do the safe boot etc and we will know if it is a third party font or software issue as these will be disabled by that process. If it is, we can help troubleshoot it here. If not, then is the time to think about going to an Apple store.
