When it wakes from sleep and the screen is black, shine a light directly on it to see how dirty it is. You can clearly make out keyprints on the screen. They're a PITA to clean off and as soon as you close the lid they come right back.

Is this the grease from my fingers? (eww)

Anyone experience something similar?

(and nope, not carrying the MBP by putting pressure on the screen!)

It probably is the oil from you fingers. I'd suggest a screen protector cloth. I got mine from a online company called shaggymac. iKlear is another company you can get one from too and they've got awesome cleaning products. If you've not gotten a cleaning solution kit or just want to try iKlear. I'd just get their screen protector if you order something from them.

I love macnn and you sir!

Just ordered the cloth and cleaning supplies. Shaggymac is badass.

Thanks Steve,

Uh, why not just use the cloth that comes with the laptop? I would think that would also work.. plus you can use it to clean your screen!

I have not had this problem. My keyboard, apparently, does not touch the screen when the lid is closed.

I agree. I would think the glass cover on the screen is like the iphone. My matte screens would get the imprint of the keys if I did not use a cover when the lid was closed.

Yeah, this is a fairly common thing on other models (I'm thinking of my old Lombard G3). I always used to just use a sheet of regular 8.5"x11" paper as my ghetto screen protector.

any others getting this on the newer (late 2008) mb's or mbp's?

just for clarification, we're discussing keyboard key marks, not fingerprint marks, on the screen.
