I've been impressed. So impressed, I wish there was a way to use an Apple Wireless KB with an Apple TV.

Not necessarily.
Like all OS projects, they need a strong focus and management. I pray that this one won't stay in perpetual development hell, but I'm not holding my breath.
It is good for what it is right now, but I can see this getting out of hand as most development seems to be on new features instead of polishing up what's already there.

In any case, screw boxee, it looks like the latest release of Plex is really where it's at.
No Welcome to the Social™ features though, but almost complete iLife integration and a more slick UI.

There seem to have been some network issues, mine stalled twice the last couple of days. A restart of boxee always cured it though.

I moved from Boxee to XBMC on my Apple TV. There are a bunch of plugins to add things like Last.fm or TED and it looks so much better than Boxee with the AEON theme.
The navigation also seems much better to me. It’s just a pain in the rear to set it up initially (populating the Library with those imdb scrapers and whatnot took me hours )

Plex is far, far nicer looking. For some realize I didn't realize how ectoplasmic Boxee was.

I've decided to use both:
1) Configure boxee to use the remote, but uncheck "always running"
2) Add boxee to the Plex Application list.
3) Profit!!!
Plex is a much nicer, well more integrated solution for your local content. Boxee has far superiour internet content.
Judging by posting on both of their forums, never shall the twain meet

Shame you can't use Plex on the Apple TV. :/

So, do you have Plex 7? Because the only link I find on the site is to 5.22 or something.

It's in development, hence linking to the latest stable release on the front page.
I've set it up to launch DVD Player, FR, EyeTV and boxee, so I have best of all worlds.
Took me a while to re-organise my collection with a sane naming convention, boxee seems slightly more lenient there.

Something in my Movies folder is crashing Plex, though Boxee is handling it fine. Also, I think Boxee's media player is the stronger offering overall.
All plex is giving me is a nicer interface.

What is the difference between the two?
I realize that Plex is based on XBMC, but looking at the feature listings I don’t see much of a difference.

Latest version of boxee rocks!
Netflix streaming support.
Better Hulu support.
Can play 1080p mkv files on my Mac Mini 1.83MHz (WTH?). Even VLC couldn't play 1080p mkv on my Mac Mini.
Still a little buggy since it's "Alpha".

Yep, but it's more solid than some of the earlier aTV *release* software.

I'm a little miffed as to why boxee can't recognize a TV show that has all the fields filled in on iTunes without me filling out the info in boxee. Not a big deal, though.

Strange. Boxee recognizes shows I have with little more than the file name.

It's my blow-off address. I use it when there's a risk of getting spam. Oh, and thanks. *
I would have PM'ed someone to ask for an invite, but I needed a reason to ask about bpr without being off topic.

My Yahoo "blow-off address" just got shut down due to inactivity. The last time I checked, it had 20,000+ unchecked Emails, and that was about a year ago.
This is the same reason I can't delete my MySpace account; they send the deactivation confirmation Email to that address, and won't respond to my specific questions.
[EDIT]Also, I'm not currently using Boxee. I'll check back when it's a finished product. Since I don't have an AppleTV, I don't see what it offers me beyond iTunes except for Hulu.

iTunes, or Front Row?
Honestly, I agree, it's only really handy for it's internet content... Personally, I'd like them to do with regular Macs, what they did on AppleTV, add boxee to the Front Row options. Then it'll be perfect.

Either/or, really, but I almost never use Front Row.

There are a few things about Boxee's interface that get under my skin just a tad, as well. It feels a little slow, for instance. Maybe that's just an alpha program problem, but the lag I get seems like I'm dealing with Flash for media players.

So I installed this yesterday and it did a fantastic job of indexing my external hard drive, and separated all of the movies and TV shows correctly, minus a couple. My only qualms so far are fast forwarding/rewinding isn't as smooth or predictable as Front Row, and I can't activate it from my Apple remote (but there's a way to fix that, right?).

Odd, it usually takes over your Apple Remote by default. Anyway, check the settings, it's in there (You'll want Always On).
Out of curiosity, what kind of file names do you have that it recognized everything?
Edit: Also, Launch Boxee from Front Row
(I have yet to try it, though)

*cough* Plex *cough*
iTunes/iPhoto/Aperture integration, can launch DVD Player, FrontRow and even boxee (for the internet content), plus it has a fast sexy interface. What's not to love?

Ah, I don't have it "always on." My TV show file names are a combination of the typical "Arrested Development - S1 E 05 - Charity Drive" and my movies are simply the movie title.
