My eMac will not boot up. Pressing power button results in small noise, then nothing. I have replace the battery and reset the PRM. Still nothing.

I want to get my photos off the HD. I can remove the HD from the eMac, but I need the source (mfg. name & model) of an external case, and also how to connect the HD to the external case so I can download my photos.

Can anyone help with this?

Does the computer get far enough that you can get into Target Mode by booting up the computer with the 'T' key held down? Do you get a blue screen with a FireWire logo jumping around on it, sort of like a screensaver?

If so, your eMac can double as a drive enclosure. Just start it up in Target Mode, then run a FireWire cable from its FireWire port to the FireWire port on another Mac, and the hard drive should show up on the desktop.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Thanks, but I don't have another Mac to do the target mode. So removing the HD seems to be the only recourse.

This one seems to be getting some good reviews.

You could buy a case, if you plan to leave the HD in it, but if you just need to one-off the data from the HD, buy one of these handy USB-to-everything HD adapters, like this (I own this, it works well): http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer...gy/U2NV2SPATA/

That vendor, Other World Computing, also sells fantastic USB/FireWire housings. For an eMac, you want one for standard 3.5" drive connected with ATA (aka Parallel ATA or PATA), not SATA.

What does that have to do with the original question?!?

Thank you. I'm hopeful that the adapter is exactly what I need, so I ordered one.
