Okay, looking for info, input, tips, and pointers! I'm about to get my first tattoo, and I want to get the skinny on things to look for as far as picking the place to get it done. There's a place here in town that's been doing them for a while -- but that's it. Houston is only an hour or so away, but if I was going to do that, I'd be clueless as far as wading through all the available shops.

So, when I walk into our local inker's place, what should I look for? What should I ask about? What shoudl have me running out the door? Obviously I'll ask to see their work, but what other stuff (hygiene, etc.) do I need to be thinking about?

I threw together a 2 second totally rough idea of what I'm thinking of getting:

I don't have any colors or anything outside of the line art done so far, but you get the idea.

I'm assuming a good inker can do nice, even, straight lines -- and circles. SHould I just get an appt with Miami or LA Ink?

A transistor married to a star??
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Yes, it's a transistor -- and the star is part of my new effect's business branding.

You could get one that says "Leviticus 19:28".

Lies! Doof is not that predictable.

Two of Doof's homies are tattoo artists. As such, Doof is regularly offered ink for free. Doof always declines on the basis that if everything goes tits up, at least in twenty years' time he'll be able to get a job in a circus as "the incredible untattooed man".

Regarding your interpretation of Christianity, not usually, but in this case, apparently so.

Y'know, I find the idea of tattooing yourself with a corporate brand (even of your own design) just too ripe for satire.

My advice is to make sure that whatever you get done can be seamlessly integrated into a bigger piece, because tattoos are addictive and eventually you'll want more. It's a pain if you then want a big piece and this little rubber-stamp looking thing is in the way!

If it was during my regular working hours, I'd have to agree. I just happened to check MacNN when I got home, though.

Except I didn't say that, did I? I said I have a stars in my upcoming logo. Stars in my logo ≠ a tattoo of my corporate branding.

Totally. What I posted was a quick PS idea toss. I still have to "art" it up.

Most tattoo shops/artists will have photo books of their work. Head into a few shops and ask to see them. If one of the tattooers isn't working, maybe he or she will point out some favorites, and you can see if you have similar aesthetics. Also, see if any bodyart/tattooing web sites or forums have any discussion about local artists. If you know people with tattoos, find out if they got them locally and if they like their artist.

But technically speaking, unless the person in question is Jewish, observance of Leviticus 19:28 isn't mandatory.

Well, I definitely like it. Personal (even though you got the date around the wrong way ), and classy. Nothing over the top. Kudos
