Okay, some buddies are starting a band, and they can't decide on a name — so I thought I'd post a poll here and see what you guys think of the two names they're going between. They all met by working in another group, and that other group has practice on Thursday nights — so they wanted to incorporate that into the name somehow. This led to 2 potentials: "Four Days Deep" and "Thursday Luck."

FWIW, this band will be playing rock ala Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Guster, etc.

Ain't much of a choice there. If they're going to make a record sometime, it'd have to be "Four Days Deep" (less competition than beginning with the letter "T"). But only if there's not four of them in the band, else it's the cheesy mark of unsuccessful death.

Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Guster?

Admittedly I don't think I've ever heard anything by Guster, but do they belong in the same group?

Definitely "Four Days Deep." "Thursday Luck" sounds like a popish sort of band name anyway.

And I'm also not sure that Alice in Chains and Soundgarden go together. And I don't know "Guster" at all, either...

Alice in Chains and Soundgarden definitely go together, if you're talking the bands and not just the names. They all came about in Seattle at roughly the same time in the late 80's. Never heard of Guster, however.

Their sound was never that "similar" to me. Sort of a different attitude behind the music that came through rather strikingly for me.

True to some extent. Alice in Chains' lyrics were heavily laden with Layne's battle with drug addiction (which always made their sound more dark), while Soundgarden's really didn't have as dark a tone, and actually had quite a few upbeat tunes. Still, however, they're both grunge ambassadors in the truest sense.

I cannot wait until Alice in Chains' new music is released in its entirety in September.

But, back on track, yeah, "Four Days Deep" is still a bit "Three Days Grace" or "Three Doors Down"-ish, but, to each their own.

TO me, yes. Music is far too complex nowadays, so I put everything into simple categories: Sucks, Doesn't Suck, Metal, and Rock.

Reviewing the previous comments, I have been struck that nobody has suggested part of the thread's title: "Help Some Brothers Out." That's a decent band name and it doesn't, by itself, say anything specific about the music.

I've never heard of Three Days Grace before I asked about this to others (not here) -- and you're only the 2nd person to say anything about them (unless you're really Phillip).

Wow, really? They're, um, kinda popular in the hard-rock crowd (at least in the U.S.).

Not realng feeling either name to be honest. Is there another way you can incoporate Thurday in there?

What the Fourth? The other T day. After the middle.

The band I was in during high school was Nocturnal Emissions, but that was pretty fitting for our age group. I can't remember who came up with it, but it wasn't me i.e. I know nothing about naming bands.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

We need more insight into why Thursday is so important. I mean, do they have anything more interesting in common?

At this point, the above are what they're working with -- so for now, them's the choices.

Even if you don't particularly like either name, which is the better between what's available?

Are they a lesbo inuit dwarf group? I ask, because nowhere in the OP it reads what your buddies look like. Appearance might play a role in picking a name, but I refuse to assume they look like lizards, wasps or chihuahuas.

How 'bout "Bonnerstag"?
