"Is the case waterproof?"
"No, so don't put it in the dishwasher."
"Is the case flamable?"
"If you light it on fire it is."
Very cool.

I ordered the Case-mate and it arrived over the weekend. Fits well if a little loose. Duct taping it for more secureness on the ends but it's a conversation piece. Worth the 99 cents.

I never use iPod or iPhone cases. I just don't care if it gets scratched. I can't understand why people want to make their portable electronics any thicker.

Cases also protect against drops.

I used to swear by InvisibleShields/BodyGuardz, but for some reason on a white iPhone they always discolor so now I've got an iSkin solo on there.

I agree with that. But having had my iPhone 3G naked most of it's life, I can tell you that the device itself protects against drops. I've dropped it 3' onto concrete, with no ill effects other than a scratch on the corner.
I think these cases mostly lighten the wallet and give the owner of the $600 device piece of mind more than they provide and real impact protection.
The cardboard one it's freakin awesome though.

Working at Apple, having seen one broken iPhone screen after another (and in 2G iPhones, dented corners) I totally believe in cases that stay on the phone full time. (The sleeves that you have to slide the phone in and out of, on the other hand, make the problem worse IMHO.) A case that raises the screen glass off of a surface when dropped is what I always recommend.

I use one to protect against scratches so that I can more easily resell it once the next version is announced.

I use the Speck Candyshell (batwing black) and it is very nice for that. I can leave it screen-side down on a table and not worry at all.
