I have a new Macbook with 10.5.6 installed (refurbished, came with SL drop-in DVD) and I'm trying to migrate from a Macbook with 10.4.11. I went through the setup process, selected migrate and hooked up the computers via ethernet. After 5 hours with "less than a minute to go" I got an error that the network connection had been lost and it could not reestablish.
So I started over, wiping the new Macbook and reinstalling the OS, as well as running DiskWarrior and a permissions repair on the old Macbook. I also used a brand new ethernet cord. This time the transfer ran for 5 hours, then got stuck at "less than a minute" for over 8 hours, but no network error.
I did some Googling and found this: MacBook and MacBook Pro (Late 2008) and later: What to do if migration is unsuccessful However, I ran SU and I'm running the latest version of Migration Assistant on the old Macbook already.
I think my next step will be to go ahead and install SL, then try the migration again. Unless anyone here knows what to do ...

Reason: confusion of model names)

Have you tried over firewire? Put the macbook in target disk mode, connect to MBP, and use MA that way.

The Macbook Pro doesn't have a firewire port
The other option is over Airport, but that's not possible on my current network

another option would be to image your MB drive to an external USB drive, then mount the image from your MBP and choose that for MA.

There's no such thing as a MacBook Pro that doesn't have FireWire.

Sorry, I'm talking about the aluminum unibody Macbook. Ive been referring to it as 'pro' in my head to keep them separate, I didnt even realize I did that in the post
I'll go back and edit
