I just went to Surcouf today and guess what? there was a TiBook 500 !!!! They don't have any in stock it's just a demo model though but it rocks! At first I was a little deceived because it looked really small and the screen doesnt look 15.2" due to the widescreen format but after spending a few minutes with it you realize how big it is and also how damn thin is the whole portable !! hmm... just quoted what the lady said. never even *thought* about the date, but, of course, you're right about 2000.

considering my experiences from the last weeks, i'd say, it's quite possible, though...

I called my reseller today. No information. The best he can say is one word: march. Damned. And I ordered my TiBook only hours after Jobs speech.

hi,

Fnac Micro Cluny (Boulevard St Germain, Paris, France) has also a demo 500MHz Ti. They say some units will be available tomorrow (22/02), at least for those who ordered one (like me :-) ), and maybe along with demo units of products that will be announced at Tokyo !!

Its now shipped in Paris. big grin
First units "seems" debut today at some retailers, after that some AppleStore's order was shipped last week...
I had receipt my config today :
PowerBook G4
400Mhz/ 10 GB/128

Its a rock!!!!!!
No probs, no dead pixels (at time), and no difficulties with the DVD...
Im very very Happy!!!!!!

Ill be in touch very soon for more details and first comments

Az

PS :
My retailer is not a MAJOR store in Paris... But they HAVE!!!!!
Take care, there is a hundred people and the list, and they respect the "First Call First Serve".
I ordered my TiBook on January 10th just after the Keynote.
Mac OS X : The power of UNIX with the simplicity and elegance of the
Macintosh. Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication...

Fnac Champs Elyses (as well as Fnac St Lazare or Montparnasse) isn't a Fnac Micro : they don't have priority on new computers. On the contrary Fnac Micro Cluny is specialized in selling computers and has a (too small for me) Apple aera.

The PB G4/400 has started appearing at retail stores in London. I think most of them are spoken for through pre-orders, although the odd shop may have 1 or 2 still in stock. No sign of the 500Mhz model yet.

For those in London who have yet to see the new PowerBook, MicroAnvika's two flagship stores (the newer ones) on Tottenham Court Road each have one 400Mhz demo model on display. Albion Computers (Mortimer Street) also have a display model.

I got my Ti book 2 days ago from a local dealer in Belgium.
Quite a change from my wallstreet. Works great: no dead pixels, no DVD issues,...
It's a portable office.
Could someone tell me why some people still buy wintel machines, when apple offers the best on the market!!!!!

A happy mac addict

Hi Ovaz. Do you know with wich import company your reseller works? Does he work with Swip or with the other one (there are only two Apple importators in Switzerland!)

Fnac is apparently shipping new Ti's by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Good news indeed. However, I gave up. I am sticking to my sucky wintel machine until New York hoping for a revised Ti and of course... for my banker to give me back my credit card...

For some incomprehensible reason, I am completely broke and I just spent $4000 in two weeks... How did I do that? I think i will regret it all my life. I can't get Ti!!!!!!

Hello zorg
The company I got it from is Dataquest, Dietikon. As far as I know, they are one of the few remaining resellers that get their stuff directly from Apple. they handle the big players like ETH and the University in Zurich etc.
What they told me -> Apple told them that the first shipment should be 70 Ti400, but they only got 35... so I was one of the lucky few...
best regards from zurich

I agree... however I have to say, I did the worst thing I have ever done in my life. My parents are going to kill me for this. Anyway, I am getting my salary in two weeks, just enough to get my credit card back but oh well... Goodbye to TiBook... I will see you in Paris...(hoping for an update by Mac Expo in Paris)

i got an e-mail from my distributor (macwarehouse germany) yesterday and they wrote that they got ten tibooks last week. well, my position on their waiting list was 14. :-(

they said that they'd get more tibooks tomorrow, so i think that there is a realistic chance i'll have mine by the end of the week. (guess i've said that before, though ;-) )

but at least i now know that they weren't forgotten by apple.

I think Apple is now shipping in masses. I've ordered my TiBook, standard 500/256/20 on the Apple Store Europe on Feb. 9th. Due to a problem, they received my order on Feb. 21st, but they shipped it immediately on Feb 22nd. I received it on Feb. 26th. If you are still waiting, hold out! It will be yours soon - and believe me, it totally rocks! No DVD problem, no dead pixels, everything is fine. The TiBook is worth every penny and worth every day you have to wait for it, believe me.

Just popped into Gordon Harwood, Alfreton, UK, this lunchtime and they have a TiBook on display (didn't notice which one, 400 I think). They are expecting stock imminently.

They have a damn nice showroom there, with the full range of Mac hardware on show. Very stylish.

I saw one and I am rather deceived by it's performance. Since I didn't try any Photoshop or any other Altivec optimized softwares, I really couldn't see any speed difference compared to Pismo. Oh well, I think I will wait until Apple Expo in Paris.

PS. Just so so deceived, I am not getting one. Well, after all, it's my bank who decided so...

The strange think is that the Ti seems to be slower on battery even when the energy settings are the same.
I sold my Wallstreet 292 before I received my Ti but I wasn't impressed with speed either.
The machine is fast enough but not the speed demon I was hoping for.
The screen is really superb and makes up for the little speed dissapointment.

Yes, me a few weeks ago.
(If you read carefully you can see that I come from the Netherlands.)

Seems I'm almost the only one in the Netherlands.
I ordered at the Applestore on the 10Th of Januari.

Mine doesn't really have a problem but the mechanism is very lame.
The CD's don't get stuck but every time I insert or eject a CD it's like it's using it's last breath.
Sticker-labelled CD's are troublesome also.
It looks like the mechanism is mounted a little to high and underpowered.
My Ti was shipped on the 14th of Februari, before the Apple anouncement.

According to the authorised reseller where I placed my order, they've got about 200 orders for the PB G4 and only got 5 PBs from Apple so far.

Guess I'm in for a looooong wait.

Sebastian

P.S.: That's in Germany.

I received my TiPB today from McWarehouse Germany
ordered at 3. Feb. (500/256/20 standard config)!
1st Impression: nice tool, 1 dead pixel, a weak keyboard and unfortunately really hot (this was my greatest fear), hotter than my old wallstreet.
In spite of this --- love it.

well, glad to see that you're getting your tibooks. ovaz, i ordered mine also at february 6th at architronic in emmenbruecke (lu) - still no idea when it should arrive.

however: i paid just 4990 sfr for the 400/256/10 model. i'm wondering
who can beat this price here in switzerland...

so... are there still any people here that haven't got their books? it's getting silent here i think...

Yes, I don't have mine yet. :-(
Anyway, as of today AppleStore Germany lowered the estimated shipping time to 15 days. Hopefully the resellers will be able to get the 'books somwhere in this timeframe, too.

The price I am supposed to pay is lower than the one you''ve mentioned: CHF 4749 for a plain vanilla 400MHz model at Letec. The difference makes for 128MB extra RAM. Lowest Edu price I've seen has been posted at Zurich University: CHF 4650 (advance payment required)

My dealer just called: There it is...
... I'm off.

1) the model you ordered: 500/128/30/AP
2) the date and time of your order: 16th January
3) the place you've done it: AppleStore UK
4) the status of your order: Delivered 8th March

I got my BTO delivered in the UK, it shipped from Taiwan on the 4th coming via Amsterdam and arriving on the morning of the 9th at Heathrow, it was delivered by DHL that same afternoon.

I originally ordered it with 256MB of RAM but asked them to change the order to 128MB, they assured me it would not prejudice my place in the queue and they were right!
