Very nice Mr. Laminar.
I actually thought that 2 strokes were banned in the US on public roads, or at least the stuff over 125cc (or something like that). European rules mean that we won't even have 2 stroke 125cc bike for much longer.

Well they stopped making them sometime around '76, but they can still be legally ridden on the roads.

I'm impressed. I'm toying with the idea of building a new radiator cover and even that is intimidating me since I can't decide on a design.

I had a solid black 360 in high school. The transmission eventually sounded like a bag of cutlery at idle, but I got a lot of fun out of that bike. Gave it away (to a mechanic) because even with West Coast connections we couldn't find parts anywhere at the time.
Can you post an eBay link? I'm curious about what they're worth.

A bike in similar condition went for around $4500 a few weeks ago, I can only hope mine goes that high.

Thanks for posting the link. I'm sorry you didn't get what you expected, that bike looked brand new. I can see someone paying $4500 easily, I figured higher actually before I asked. You did a hellacious renovation on that thing, wow.

Yes, that was my sub-question (Jack Black hand maneuvre): how much would it cost to do that type of restoration? I just assumed this wasn't something that one would do to make money, but from quickly looking at the worklist and assuming you did a significant amount of that yourself, you'd certainly make a decent bit off it, correct?

Tangential question:
From the looks of it, you've got a couple other similar projects on the cooker.
In Germany, if you do stuff like this and sell via eBay with any regularity, the tax office will eventually take notice and assess whether it could be considered a part-time job, whose income then is, naturally, taxable.
Do similar regulations exist in the U.S.?

eBay takes $125 of the final price, no listing fees or anything else were paid.

I haven't tallied everything up, but I did just a little better than breaking even I think. The engine alone had well over $1000 in it.

Yes - if a hobby becomes a certain part of your income it's taxable.

Yeah, I wondered about the engine costs considered what was done. Definitely a great project though - and if you're not losing money and you like to do it, what more could you ask of from a hobby?

Its very common to not pay taxes though.
a good example are drug dealers/growers they can potentially make millions "under the table" and never pay taxes. Rarely do they get caught on tax evasion charges... although many famous mobsters were sent to jail not for their crimes, but tax evasion.
it's not something that is actively pursued by the tax collectors.
Great job on the bike! I would not be able to sell it after all that work. although I have flipped bikes but I only had a few hours of work in them. made a 350% profit on it too!
