When I open iCloud from my preference panel, it asks me if I would like to move my MobileMe account to iCloud. My question is if I move it what will happen to my MobileMe gallery. I still use it for photos and videos.

I was thinking about moving to iCloud, but seems like there are lots of complications. Let me explain my devices and accounts, and hopefully someone can advise me on how to proceed.

Devices:
Macbook Pro, OS X, 10.5.8 (plan to replace with new Macbook and Lion in a few months)
iphone--currently a 3GS, but will upgrade to iphone 4 in a few weeks
PC, Windows 7 (recently downloaded iCloud software, but have not activated account)

Accounts:
iTunes, attached to my Gmail account
mobile me, (i use the synching but not the email.me acct)

When I go to activate iCloud, it asks me which account I want to use. If i don't really have much saved on mobile me (other than contacts, but these are backed up on my computer), does it make sense to activate the account with my gmail apple ID? If i do so, will i be able to synch my contacts manually via my Macbook?

Is there any way to get two apple id's into one? Does that even benefit me??

My immediate concern is being able to synch the calendar on the PC and iphone. Any previous calendar entries don't matter, as I will be entering all new data.

Sorry for all the questions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no way currently to merge Apple IDs, although Apple knows it's a desired feature and is supposedly working on it.
