Surely it's a lot easier to say who's NOT going to win?
As in, it's not going to be the Broncos?

I wouldn't bet on them, but the Saints are peaking at the right time and riding a wave of momentum into the playoffs.

Does it even matter? The SuperBowl is simply an excuse to drink a sh*tload of beer, eat a lot of buffalo wings, and watch all the cool new commercials that we'll skip with the DVR for the rest of the year.

American sports have odd names for their trophies/competitions.
Stanley Cup makes sense, but World Series and Superbowl are odd.

Now that Green Bay imploded I actually think the Pats have a shot.
Honestly anyone but the Giants would be fine with me.

I would never have thought the Pats had a chance, but their defense is healthier than ever and they looked really explosive against the Broncos. Offense is their usual ass-kicking self, and Gronk has overtaken Welker as my man-crush.

World Series: Major League Baseball is an international league, where international means "The United States and Canada." Sure, we could call it "The North American Series" but that sounds lame.
Super Bowl: In the United States, a "bowl game" historically referred to post-season college football games, coming from the Rose Bowl which was the name of the stadium at which the original "Tournament East-West football game" began to be held in 1923 ("bowl" coming from the shape of the stadium). From there the games and names proliferated in college football until now it is a cluttered, sponsor-hungry mess.
College "bowl" games were popular enough that professional football adopted the "bowl" nomenclature when the Super Bowl began to be held in 1967. At the time, there were two independent professional leagues: the National Football League and a rival American Football League. The Super Bowl, in which the champions of each league would play each other, was established as part of the beginning of a merger agreement that led to the NFL of today.

In all honesty ... this boils down to the arrogance and hubris of Americans who think that the "world" revolves around them. When playing soccer ... or "football" as the rest of the world logically calls it .... the "World Cup" is a truly international competition. National teams compete for who can legitimately be called the "World Champions". Professional baseball and professional basketball is played around the world ... but the winners of US based leagues consider themselves "World Champions" when they don't even compete against international competition. And I'm sorry ... one Canadian MLB franchise doesn't an "international" league make.

No, I don't think the world revolves around Major League Baseball, but I think World Series has a nice ring to it. Who cares? The MLB is pretty much universally regarded as the premiere league in terms of international talent level, and given its high percentage of international players you might as well consider the winning team of the MLB championship to be the best in the world.

Pats. T.F.B. has been mowing down teams for weeks now. Baltimore is next, they're going to get Tebow-ed.

Ah yes, the always popular "America sucks because they think they're awesome" comment. Fantastic.

Would a little humility really hurt so much?
Its a pretty legitimate complaint, and doesn't say anything about America sucking.
Maybe they could keep everyone happy by just calling themselves the American World Champions of America?

Wow, what a game!
I was near certain the Ravens were about to march down into the endzone and end the Patriots playoff hopes. Patriots D was weak in the second half and could not stop the run to save their lives.
Obligatory lonesome kicker song.

At this point I'm just happy the Pats made it to the Super Bowl, no idea what two weeks will bring.

It's archived on the media server. I think I'll watch some of it tonight, just for a good laugh.

I'm going to try to watch this game. I tried last year and got bored after about 15 minutes. I expect its more entertaining when you know more of the rules but I still don't know them. Maybe I'll pick something up this time.

Well its just after half time and I still have the game on. The BBC showed Madonna followed by a montage of various action shots from the season just gone. Have I been robbed of the best part? (By which I mean cheerleaders)
