We're debating getting these at work, but I'm think they won't work well in InDesign/PhotoShop/Illustrator...
Thoughts? Experiences?

For myself, I think no... but then I have coworkers who do everything with a wacom tablet and I still prefer a mouse.
When in doubt, try one on a spare mac and then let us know!

For regular home computer use it seems great, but then I think about making a clipping path with the thing and my eye starts to twitch.

I can't imagine using a trackpad in Illustrator. A mouse is just a far higher-resolution device, which is crucial in a complex, high-detail environment like Illustrator.

I can't imagine doing Illustrator with a mouse. A Wacom tablet is a far more useful tool.

I have a Wacom, too. It's handy if I need to do some pressure-sensitive drawing in Illustrator, but I've always found it pretty clunky for 95% of the stuff I've done in the app. I can grab and drag handles and control points far quicker and more accurately with a mouse.

I had to use Illustrator for one day with a trackpad and it made me feel physically sick with the stress of using it. Totally, totally unsuitable.
Wacom tablet all the way. A nice proper large one too, not the tiny Bamboo thing. I also keep the mouse connected for use on the rest of the Mac.

The trackpad is fine for general OS pointing, clicking and swiping. For Photoshop/Illustrator I use a mouse, a Wacom tablet would probably be better again.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.
