For working in dimly lit areas with your TiBook the tiny USB "FlyLight" from Kensington gives you ample illumination to see your keyboard and other things. The flexible stalk has a USB connector at one end and a bright white LED on the other end. Just plug it into any USB Mac or PC. No batteries needed and the LEDs last for years. Uses less than 90 seconds per hour of battery power. Takes up almost no space in a computer bag. It's also a great eye-catcher mounted on your beautiful new Ti. I love it!!! Go to http://www.kensington.com/ for pix and more info. It's in stock now at www.smalldog.com for $19.95

(Sorry, no pix because I can't figure out how to post them here.)

1. find the pic you want to post on the web
click and hold on the pic
select "Copy this image location" from the popup menu

2. post a reply to this thread
Code:
type: [img]paste what you copied here[/img]
the result:

Try to avoid using insanely large pictures, Using smaller pictures saves loading time so people can actually read the thread.

you can even copy animated image locations that are in .gif format and create cool signatures like this one:

Just like posts can stray off topic, pictures can too, so try to keep it pertinent and don't post pics not suitable for younger viewers.

How about titanium camp cookware and fork & spoon sets from MSR? These are real titanium, not just coated with "ceramic-titanium" like Scanpans (which are still the very best cookware you can buy for your kitchen).

Or a titanium Thermos from (where else?) Thermos.

Hi...

I'd love some suggestions for a keyboard to attach to my Ti Book. I intend to hook up a Cinema Display (via Margi's Display to Go) and an Intellimouse, but don't have a clue about what keyboards are available.

Thanks!

As far as a keyboard is concerned, there is only one, the LENDA 16:
http://www.id-ee.co.jp/id-ee_home.html

Also, check out the cord wrap!!!

The Lenda 16 sold for $1600 in 1999, they have a new Blade 16, perhaps it is cheaper. Contact Bill Fox at MacImports. MacImports has some new PB stuff, and a WetSuit for TiBook is coming!
http://macimports.com/home.html

As far as monitors go: Sony SDMN50

$1600 for a keyboard? You've got to be kidding! I thought maybe you meant 1600, but that's only about $13, so that can't be right either.

The cord wrap looks nice, but MacImports doesn't carry it.

Waterfield bags can be found at http://www.sfbags.com. I highly recommend them, they make great stuff.

My little addition to this thread:

The new Visor Edge. http://www.handspring.com. Same size as a Palm V and the silver metallic color one just looks like it was made to go with the TiBook. Even has almost the same design. Basically rectangular but with rounded corners. The ultimate electronic organizer accessory for those looking to upgrade or just get a new one.

i like the light but how useful would it really be? the screen shines enough light so the screen should always be viewable. is there really a reason to see the keyboard? could someone throw out some reasons that i would need to see the keyboard? i may get one but i dont see enough reason right now to do so.

Bugs Bunny, have you recieved your case from Sharper Image (and matching handcuffs, perhaps)?

If so, how do you like it? I ordered it myself (actually discovered it on my own), and am wondering how much clearance remains in the case with the laptop in it. Enough room for the powersupply, a mouse, anything?

For me, the FlyLight has been a great help working in dimly lit areas like certain restaurants. Besides, it only costs $19.95 and is a great eye-catcher mounted on the Ti. Most laptop screens don't illuminate the keyboard well at all unless you tilt the screen way forward and then it's difficult to view the screen without hunching down. Very awkward. A good touch typist can bang off text without seeing the keyboard but even the best has trouble finding all those special function keys and seldom-used punctuation keys in the dark. Imagine how frustrating it is for a hunt and peck user or people with less-than-perfect eyesight. Then there are many occasions when you need to refere to hand-written notes or other documents while typing. Gotta have light for that. I've actually used my FlyLight as an emergency flash light to find dropped keys or a keyhole in a door -- even for walking down a pitch dark pathway. I love this cute little thing!

Odd how some places still have backordered Ti's.
I ordered mine (vanilla 400) from the AppleStore the 15th and today (17th) I received the shipment notice... upon tracking I discovered it was upgraded to FedEx and being shipped from Taoyuan City, Taiwan, is this normal?

Yeah - it's normal to ship from Taiwan. Expect it to sit for a few days in Anchorage Alaska - then it should make it pretty quickly once it leaves there. Just hope FedEx doesn't deliver it to the wrong address and lose it for 2 days like they did with mine!

Good Luck & Enjoy it!

That Kensington light seems cool and all, but I feel like Apple should have included a light on the TiBook to begin with. Here is my reasoning. Most of the freshmen at my school have this crummy IBM celeron laptop that was way overpriced. They are real crappy but they have one good feature, a light. If you flip a switch above the monitor a little light shines right down on the keyboard. The thing actually works well, but I don't know anyone who's actually used the thing. I was hoping Apple was going to include a feature like this. I really wanted to see a backlit keyboard, now that would have been cool. It would be even cooler if the features were software controlled. I guess it's time to go over to the Mac Mods forum too figure out how to make one myself, for my Pismo.

Can't say as I find that thin briefcase very impressive. There's not much padding visible, the latches look like they're made of cheap, stamped steel and the thin handle can't be comfortable for more than 20 minutes. The padding would be the real dealbreaker. I want real protection, not flash.

...and the perfect sleeve!

There's no horizontal play at all. In fact, it fits absolutely perfectly, as you can see by the pic.

There are no pockets, and it has velcro fastneres which won't scratch. It's almost as if it were designed specifically for the TiBook.

And it cost me all of $13!

Fits perfectly with all accessories inside my silver colored vinyl case (it's not metal, so it's lighter!) from FX Creations, bought for about $50.

PRESS RELEASE
"Irvine, CA - Mac Components Engineereds PowerBook Products Division (MCE PowerBook Products, an Apple Developer) today announced the FireBay, an external FireWire docking unit for PowerBook expansion bay devices. Once inserted into the MCE FireBay, PowerBook expansion bay devices such as hard disks, CD/DVD-ROMs, CD-R/RWs, Zips, etc. can be used externally on any Mac or PowerBook with a FireWire port. Eligible expansion bay devices are those designed for the Apple PowerBook (FireWire) and the Apple PowerBook G3 Series 1999 (Bronze/Lombard). Release date is set for early May.
"Expansion bay devices are no longer confined to the PowerBook platform," said Arnold Ramirez, President of MCE PowerBook Products. "Now PowerBook owners can more fully realize their investment in expansion bay modules by the ability to use them as external FireWire devices across machines."

The MCE FireBay is a small, stackable bay which can accept one PowerBook expansion bay device at a time. Depending on the particular expansion bay device in use, the FireBay can be either bus-powered or can be powered by the included AC adapter. This product gives PowerBook users, or users of any FireWire-equipped Mac, the ability to use several of their expansion bay devices simultaneously, instead of just one at a time and only in the PowerBooks single expansion bay.

Of particular interest to multimedia authors is the ability now to capture digital video on location using their PowerBook and expansion bay hard drive, and then later simply inserting the same bay drive into the MCE FireBay connected to their PowerMac G4 desktop for final editing and rendering.

The MCE FireBay can be used as a single, stand-alone unit or multiple FireBays can be stacked on top of each other. In addition to a standard FireWire port on the rear, each MCE FireBay has a topside FireWire port which connects to a port underneath each unit when stacked, thereby eliminating the need for extra cables.

The MCE FireBay FireWire Expansion Bay will ship with FireWire driver software, a FireWire cable, and owners manual. Final pricing has not yet been determined."
