lol yeah I know, but hear me out, I've been way more chill online, but here's some of what happened to me in the past month:
- Saw some jarheads spewing anti vaccine nonsense on FB, started arguing with them, I kept saying my dick was big enough that I can admit when people know more than me, so maybe I'll trust the experts, more or less. One of them ran out of arguments and became increasingly hostile, saying he wants to go for a ride on my boat and make me swim with the fishes, and then in another comment he said he wanted to tar and feather me, to hear me scream.
I reported both his comments. Facebook said they were fine.
I responded and said "threats over the internet is 100% tiny dick energy", and then I was banned for 30 days for bullying. ?!?!?!
Today, in a different forum, there was a topic about labor shortage... and the boomers instantly blamed stimmie checks, but I pointed out that when you adjust min wage for inflation, it's way lower than when they were kids, and pointed out that whole "people working full time that still qualify for gov assistance' is just subsidizing corporate profits. At no point did I talk about a politician, or red vs blue, just stayed chill and discussed the actual issue, and I was banned for "talking politics".
So yeah. Still getting banned for stuff. Not even being an asshole, just stating facts that people don't want to hear. Good times.

Facebook's banning algorithm is completely wack. I have friends who have reported blatant racism (lynching talk etc) but she got banned for arguing with them.

If it’ll make you feel better, we could hand you a week ban here, too.

Yes, I have seen a lot of posts that indicate that recently. I almost never post anything on Facebook, only read, but I have seen more than one comment about someone who got banned for some BS.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Yep. I've had comments deleted for being offensive because I copied a right-wing comment verbatim but changed the ethnic group to something completely absurd (one was about closing borders for alleged Syrian terrorists, which I changed to "Danish", and that got deleted).
Meanwhile, the original comment remained.
Facebook has a (proven) tendency to leave up offensive right-wing content unless it explicitly violates the law, because that will create shit-storms and engage people, maximising revenue.

This is the only place I argue online. Everywhere else I'll just smile and nod, it's not worth it the drama and stress it adds to my life.

It's really hard not to reply to old friends' rabid antimasking misinformation with all the links from the prestigious medical journal I work for. So sometimes I do that.

What sucks is now ANYTIME I do anything that facebook deems unacceptable, I get a 30 day time out because I've had so many infractions, but none of them made any sense.
A few months ago, I was discussing car stuff with some buddies on FB and we were talking about how many previous owners our cars had, one guys car had like 15 previous owners so I wrote "lol what a slut", 2 second later, POOF, 30 day ban for harassing/bullying behavior.
We were discussing inanimate objects. Appealed the decisions, explained I was talking about cars, to some friends, nope, I am a bully. So now, anytime the algorithm finds anything, I get a 30 day time out.
What it really obnoxious is that I have stuff for sale on messenger, and during that 30 day window I cannot adjust prices, or use teh auto responses like "yes I will accept that offer", etc.
I fucking hate facebook but craigslist is dead now.

I just looked up an old schoolmate on FB whom I was aware was on a bit of an "alternative" "medicine" thing.
She's gone full-blown Q, with the ALL-CAPS posting and the "POPULATION REDUCTION VAX", Tr**p worship, all that.
Oh man, what a shame. She was a great singer, too.
Edit: Also, she hasn't psoted since July 30th, so I guess she's either contracted Covid, or FB put her on vacation.

I ran into a neighbor like that. She tried to tell me Trump was THE BEST president we've ever had. He must have done more for us than Lincoln, Washington, and FDR in WWII. I'd thought she was smarter than that.
If they worship Trump faithfully in life, do they go to Mar-a-Lago after they die?

The snarky side in me initially wanted to post something about the relationship of Rob and bans … but he unfortunately has a point.
I'm always baffled by claims that especially Facebook censors conservatives and kooks (anti-vaxxers, Q-anon folks, etc.). Facebook has been quite strict when it comes to mundane things like nippels (even in the context of breastfeeding), catering to the prude lowest common denominator (which is also totally at odds with the cultures in many other countries). On the other hand, they can't seem (rather don't want) to do anything when it comes to bullying, open misinformation and the like. It is much easier to enforce bans on words and certain images than it is to take a clear stance on whether the actual content is acceptable or not.

Don't expect companies that make profit from generating rage, conflict and anxiety to take effective steps to limit the source of their own profitability.

The Asshole Scale:
|------------------------|-------------------------|-------------------------|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A----------------------B------------------------C-----------------------D----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------E
A: Normal people
B: People who take 20+ items into the "10 items or fewer" checkout line
C: People who fly past all of the traffic that has already merged right before a lane reduction then cut in at the last second
D: Rob "way chill"
E: Rob circa 1999-2018

This is ironic, because by far the most efficient and least traffic-jammy method of merging is when EVERYBODY just waits until the last few meters and then merges one-on-one.
This results in half the speed, but no stopping.
It's the people who merge EARLY, overloading the capacity of the one lane while leaving the other empty, who are causing the traffic jam.

Yeah, the graph probably should have extended further to the left to allow room for "Dolly Parton" and "Ghandi."

While habits are slowly changing here in Germany, one local satire magazine ust posted a timely article explaining that "zipper merging" was being abandoned due to idiocy and is being replaced by "velcro merging".

THe problem I have with that, is that CL is largely dead, and FB marketplace has replaced it. My plan is to make another facebook account and connect with close friends through that, and use my original one to just place ads/run groups/stuff.

Got banned again. Saw the viral video of that lady coughing on people, and wrote "I would have punched her in the face". Banned 30 days for "inciting violence".
This is so fucking stupid.

Cold commenting on a video that's being spread around to spark outrage and division isn't "speaking back to stupidity." It's engaging in outrage porn, and everyone would be better off if no one did that.

I can’t disagree that the coughing terrorist deserved a punch in the face. But too many soft (headed, mainly) forum rats complain about “incitement” and such for most public forums to overlook such statements.
“I would have called 911 on her for attacking people” would have turned the thread in a better direction. Get people to see how those actions are intended to be terror attacks, and that nobody has to put up with that. Hand it to the police to sort out, but coughing hag gets to have her whole self-entitled life upended. Sounds like sweet karma to me.

But you wouldn’t have been banned. Plus, IRL, you can make a solid defense out of protecting yourself and others. In that forum, you’re dealing with a bag of stupid and hate.
It sounds like that forum you got banned from is full of whining bullies, and you’re never going to make a point without ticking off a bunch of them. Which is probably why they’re there - to be jerks and bullies and get away with it, instead of earning a punch in the face themselves.
Are the folks there more fun than we are?

So killing the Keystone pipe which would have made us energy independent had no effect on gas prices?

The Keystone pipeline is already operational. What got cancelled was an extension / shortcut.
TransCanada Keystone Pipeline GP Ltd, abbreviated here as Keystone, operates four phases of the project. In 2013, the first two phases had the capacity to deliver up to 590,000 barrels (94,000 m3) per day of oil into the Midwest refineries. Phase III has capacity to deliver up to 700,000 barrels (110,000 m3) per day to the Texas refineries. By comparison, production of petroleum in the United States averaged 9.4 million barrels (1.5 million cubic meters) per day in first-half 2015, with gross exports of 500,000 barrels (79,000 m3) per day through July 2015.
(emphasis added)
It appears we were already oil-independent as of 2015, even exporting 500,000 barrels per day. I'm not clear on how increasing Canadian oil imports makes us energy-independent.
According to a list of oil-exporting countries, the USA is #4 worldwide in oil exports as of 2017. Just ahead of Canada. I suppose completing the Keystone expansion could have helped Canada enough for them to pull ahead of us in oil exports.

I’m not even going to try to explain this, but the (2019) numbers from the EIA say we import 9.14 million barrels per day, and export 8.47 million barrels per day.

It's simple: People with clout among the political establishment are making a killing exporting oil, and more people with political clout are making a killing IMporting oil.
Everybody makes huge amounts of money; the people pay for it, and Biden gets the blame.

An alternate answer is light oil sells for about $70 a barrel, and heavy sells for $50. Domestic production is mostly light, so we pump-n-dump the light and buy the cheaper stuff.
Also, the west coast isn’t really plugged into the network.

"Gas prices and groceries" seems to be the latest drum the conservative media is banging on. It's a surefire way to know who spends too much time in their social media echo chamber.
Other tells:
- Calling something "crooked"
- Only speaking positively of a minority group in order to punch down at a different minority group
- Obsession with Hunter Biden
- Obsession with California
- Complaints about "the media," using evidence sourced from the media, but just different media
- After vehemently defending one side while attacking the other side, when faced with indefensible evidence that their chosen side is bad, reverts to, "Well both sides are bad!!"

The US has a habit of doing interesting things with crude oil. We have in the past imported “higher quality” crude oil while exporting “lower quality” crude.
The EIA also reports that last year we became a net EXporter of petroleum products. Basically, sometimes we import crude that we refine and export as products like gasoline.
One real issue is the way our refining capacity is concentrated. There are way too many refineries clustered around the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast.
That’s not to say that there aren’t refineries elsewhere. Wikipedia shows that there are lots of refinery locations across the country. But four of the ten largest refineries are in Texas, three in Louisiana, and one each in Indiana, California and Mississippi.
That does two things. It requires transportation of crude to a relatively few, concentrated locations, and focuses distribution of finished products to the whole country from those same few locations. The term “choke point” comes to mind.
Further, all of the safety issues surrounding one refinery kind of overlap in some places. If the Port Arthur refinery has a catastrophic accident, there are a lot of nearby facilities that could not only be impacted, but be catastrophically impacted. Not just one large boom…a series of explosions, toxic releases and communities devastated by those events. That “if” above is being very optimistic. It’s really more of a “when”.
Edited because math.

Would love to have one. Then I too could make appreciative hand gestures as I drive by gas stations. No more rip offs.
