As the kids have gotten older, we've graduated from Elmo Saves Christmas to Die Hard. Sadly Die Hard III does not seem to be set during christmas which throws off everything.
Perennial Faves we will watch again and again:
Muppet Christmas Carol
Elf
It's a Wonderful Life
Nightmare before Christmas
Charlie Brown Christmas
Rudolph and the other claymations (despite certain dated notions caveats and quid pro quos)
Requested from the library:
Miracle on 34th Street
Gremlins
Pondering if teens would like:
Love Actually (despite some storylines alan rickman and emma thompson are excellent)
What else is worth it?
Jingle all the way, is it cringe or classic? Christmas vacation? Santa Clause (ugh tim allen)
For those with littles, Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russell was fun, and the sequel, but not something I feel like rewatching every year.
With older kids watching Polar Express is kind of bittersweet.
I have access to bazillion digital services but still the library is most reliable way to get certain movies.

Scrooged.
Really, almost any adaptation of A Christmas Carol is usually a good bet (as long as it isn't a musical.)

Shouldn’t the original Lethal Weapon also be a Christmas movie?

Scrooged: yes that's a good one... the ghosts are great. playing on amazon video for 1.99... or nowhere.
Bad santa: the same. I do have some amazon video credits to use.
Lethal Weapon: these guys agree with you. https://www.regmovies.com/static/en/...s-movie-or-not I certainly am tired of explaining the "I'm getting too old for this sh*t" meme to the kids. Putting this a maybe, also despite Gibson being a collassal jackass.
Missing from the list above: Home Alone and Home Alone II: we watched those in recent years but I don't feel much call to rewatch every year.
Funny there is a musical version of a christmas carol that was just filmed in Boston and going to air on Apple in 2022... Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds! Shhh...

I rate Jingle All the Way.
I've never seen Its A Wonderful Life. Thats weird isn't it?

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

NO!
But on a scale of 1-10 evil Mel Gibsons, Tim Allen is about at a 5... minus credit for being in Galaxy Quest... Ok, Santa Clause might make the cut. Just this year and no sequels!

I’m in the “horribly overrated” camp, but it’s probably worth at least one viewing due to its outsized influence on pop culture. I can almost guarantee you’ve made references to it without realizing.

Yes I'm aware of a fair few bits of it. And probably more I don't realise is from it.
As for Tim Allen, I never minded him in Home Improvement and Galaxy Quest is great. His more recent sitcoms are not my cup of tea at all.

Hee! it's got a bunch of fun people in it too.
Last night we watched classic VHS Grinch and kid was intrigued by the cartoon ad for Grandma got run over by a reindeer. 20 years later I still can't believe they made an entire christmas special out of that song... that is now stuck in my head.
AND NOW YOURS
