Alarming growl in my Performa

Hi...have developed a deep rumble which comes and goes at the back of my Performa 6400/180 upgraded with an accelerator from Sonnet....it has not so far interfered with the operation but it is scary...any thoughts out there?

So many possibilities. If it's literally at the rear, could be a fan gone bad. Otherwise, could be signs of hard drive failure. (Or something else still -- but we're exhausting most of the moving parts options).

Sounds like the bearings in your fan are dying. It happened on my
old 6400/180 and it needed replacing.

Forgot to mention that it may also be a gremlin. Do not, I repeat, do not pour water into the machine.

Most probably a bad fan, but it could be a loose bit rattling (unlikely with the 6400 case) or a wire touching one of the fan blades, if the noise is particularly loud.
