well, i don't know about you, but i sort of think that four stars isn't bad at all... i mean, if 5 is as good as it gets, then i'd assume that only people like cipher/the mods who are truly useful almost all of the time should have 5, and the other people should have 1-4 based on how nice/informative/useful their postings are... so, based on such a system (which is purely my own creation, i know) you're not doing badly at all?

hey, it's a theory.

Thanks poocat, but I still want 5.....just because I believe I deserve them being here for as long as I have been (longer than Ciph in fact)...I say bring back the other ones, this rating system is just gonna cause problems.[*]null

If they changed the word "Rating" to "Karma", people would be raving for the stuff

that only works for men tho...i think. anyway. i dont think rating really means anything. you know some random jerk is going to go through the forums and rate everyone down or something. maybe that jerk will be me? haha, at any rate, i dont think we should be concerned with ratings. they mean nothing.

Its fraught with problems.

People registering multiple accounts to rate themselves up, and others down.
People rating others down due to a difference in opinion.
And so forth.

Its not an accurate indication of anything.

If you click on "my profile", you can hide your status. I suggest everyone does it if administration won't turn it off completely...

BTW, I like the size of this text window

Unfortunately, only ratings of four or five actually show up. So if you don't have a rating, you're probably rated one (<font color = blue>l</font><font color = red>i</font><font color = green>k</font>e<font color = blue> </font><font color = red>m</font><font color = green>e</font>!).

I was surprised to see the relatively low # by my name. <font face = "courier">The post count is still there at the bottom of each post though</font> I think I rate 'senior member' just for longevity, have the 'elite etc' for members with a real post count

<font color = red>Lots of new features with this version of UBB</font>. Nice

I'm very surprised to see that someone rated me!!
I wanted to hide this in my profile before, but now that I'm rated...

oh I just don't care, it won't change anything in my posts.

(just trying to put color in hexadecimal)

I think we're going to disable soon it if stuff like this continues.
Probably, though, after I hack the original stars (Yellow/Blue/Red).

Well, before the ratings disappear I really should thank whoever gave me five stars. The only thing I can be sure of is it's someone who doesn't read my posts.

Oh, and whoever you are, you forgot to tell me where to mail the envelope stuffed with dollar bills?

I do like the karma idea in that it can supplement the star status based on post count: the boards @ http://www.ambrosiasw.com are setup so that mods and admins "bless" people for whatever reason to increase their karma. Kinda of cool...an idea to throw out there.

There was a karma/bless hack for UBB5, I am sure that in the next few months there will also be a UBB6 version...

It is an interesting idea...
