What does this error mean?
reading message 1 of 1 (917 octets) fetchmail: SMTP connect to localhost failed
fetchmail: can't raise the listener; falling back to /usr/bin/procmail -d %T flushed

Do you have sendmail running as <font face = "courier">sendmail -bd</font> (executed with sudo)? From that error, it looks to me like your computer is rejecting smtp connect requests, which generally means that your mailer daemon is broken or not running.

Look at http://www.tijsseling.com/professional/xtipstop.html to properly set up sendmail as smtp.
