I just did a fresh install of 10.1 on my dualusb ibook. I can't use telnet or ftp in console anymore though. I get

ftp: ftp/tcp: unknown service
telnet: telnet/tcp: unknown service

errors.

Anyone else had this problem and know a solution?

just uncomment the ftp & telnet lines in /etc/inetd.conf, then reboot.

You can turn on FTP access in the File Sharing thingie under System Preferences. You can also turn on "allow remote login" there. This
is better then allowing telnet because it uses secure shell (ssh).
All packets are encrypted so no one can snoop your passwords.

me thinks he means the CLI ftp and telnet client programs....

If that's the case, it could be a problem with NetInfo... unfortunately, I don't know enough about it to give any reliable help. But my guess is that it has something to do with NetInfo.
