Some jackass with a jeep was drivingin like a nimrod the other day, and I caught him at a light. I wasnt expecting him to take off, but since he did I thought I'd catch up with him. Keyword THOUGHT. I COULDN"T!!!!! So. Yeah, my respect for Jeeps went up a bit more, although I do already respect their off road prowess.... but jeez. I caught him at the next light and raced again, and stayed in front til 45mph or so (at which point I backed off), but... man. JEeps are quick. I suppose it was stacked a bit in his favor though, as I did have a full tank of gas, 3 people in my car, and two 383 cast iron exhaust manifolds in my trunk. But still, I won't scoff at Jeep performance from now on.

My buddy had a Nissan Pathfinder circa 1996 and we were trying to pass 2 cars ahead of us. Traffic was coming along so we decided to hold off until it cleared, only to see a Jeep GC just blow past us from behind. Even the stupid Wranglers with the I6's kick mucho ass.

They laughed at my Mac, it had no CLI. They laughed at Linux, it had no GUI. I installed MacOS X, and shut them up.

Hey Ca$h,

Speaking of Jeeps, This week I just bought a brand new Wranger to replace my Cherokee. I couldn't help but think of you when I got home and had three SUV'S in my driveway.

And yes they do have the get up and go. Almost 200hp in a light truck. (with the 4 litter I-6)

Why do people do these ridiculous things?

Why can't everyone be happy with a way to get around? Never mind all of this as-fast-as-I-can ****.

BTW, I drive a 15-year-old minivan with 152,000 on it.

Now, if a Wrangler is a garage door then my CJ-7 is a brick wall. But that's no suprise since I've always referred to it as such. You learn to respect the wind really quickly when you're out on the road in a Jeep. Sometimes I feel like a blown 454 wouldn't make me go any faster thanks to the wind resistance. Then again, doing 100 in a CJ is fast enough.

I drove a 4 liter Cherokee for years - the suckers are geared really well for an around towner. it was actually quicker off the line than my wife's z-car. But no Jeep should ever be considered a hotrod. And I say that having owned five of 'em.

I've been dying to drop in and post a pic of my new ride - this was my birthday present to myself! Got it last weekend and I'm cruising all over.

There are some pretty wealthy people i'm sure. And if you are going to be driving around some place, it's nice to do the driving in a vehicle that is stylish, fast, etc. Is it a necessity? No. But is a cool car nice to have? Yes, just like having a fast computer isn't a necessity, it is still nice to have.

Why do you people say that a 3300 lb car is lightweight ???!!!
And that 200 bhp is a lot for a 3300 lb car ???
Man buy real cars instead of american crap-cars ! (yeah maybe they have a little more than average torque but they are NOT powerful and are the most nature unfriendly machines in the world!) and thet are SLOW IMHEPOVO (In My Humble European-Point-Of-View Opinion).

-Vanquish

OMG, not this troll again. Look, I dare you to name a car that straight off the assembly line weighs less than a Wrangler and can handle the rigors of serious off-road travel. Let's compare what you have across the pond. The only two vehicles even in the same category as the Wrangler are the Land Rover Defender 90 and the Mercedes G wagon (2 door, not the beheamoth 4 door they now sell in the States). Both of these vehicles are twice as heavy as the Wrangler and cost probably 3-4 times as much. You can build a Jeep that will walk all over those two vehicles and it would still cost you less. So don't tell me the Jeep is heavy.

Also, what's your definition of powerful? Do you expect Jeep to drop a V12 in there? For it's intended purpose, the 4.0L is the perfect engine. It's extremely stout and puts out a lot of torque. If you still don't realize that then you're an idiot. We've explained the reasoning behind this a million times, so now you've transcended ignorance and moved on into stupidity (stupidity being the acceptance of an ignorant belief despite contradictory evidence).

Vanquish -

See the car in my post? 300 bhp at the rear wheels. 0-60 in a heartbeat. 28 mpg. Yes, 28 mpg. 150mph top speed. It REQUIRES ZR rated (149+) tires. I paid less than 20 grand (considerably less) for a pristine used with 26,000 miles.

Bring ANYTHING from Europe over with those specs for that price.

Anything.

Anything at all.

Really. Any car at all...

<crickets chirping>

Nimisys - She's got a few mods to it - a cat back exhaust system and a Lingenfelter air intake with three K&N filters. Also has a short throw Hurst shifter that is really sweet. And a nice Kenwood stereo. I might rework the throttle body assembly and look at a Hypertech chip, but there really not much internally I'd want to play with right now. She's plenty powerful.

Besides, I figure I'll be spending most of my extra cash on tires - the 17" ZR-315-35s on the back are damn pricey.

Back in the mid 70's I had a CJ5 with the 304 V8. With that combo if you were a little brave you could drop the clutch hard at max RPM and lift the front wheels off the ground.

It was also kinda wild to light up all four wheels in a very short drag.

Used the insurance money to get a `67 Stingray convertable. Got tired of the `67, sold it for a `73 pea green convertable. Sold the `73, only to buy an `84 some many years later.

Years later, bought a `94 convertable in 1996 for pennies on the dollar. Now he complains because he's old and it's hard to get in and out of the `Vette.

My mom has a '88 4L Cherokee. That thing has power.. yes.. but damn it's heavy! I learned to drive on little cars.. and I prefer the feeling of.. say.. a Neon or a Civic. I drove a Civic yesterday (I started to look at used car because I want to buy one), and I felt in love with it.. It's so nice to drive, handles well, less powerfull (weight/hp ratio is lower I think) but still fun to drive.. that's gonna be a car I'll look to buy (maybe a Mazda Protege too).

Also.. it costed a lot to my parents to get that car.. reparations costs A LOT. But it still can be fun to drive

Man, don't get a freaking civic. Let me help convince you otherwise.

1. Civics are lemming cars. Count how many you see in a day. EVERYBODY has a freaking civic, so THINK DIFFERENT.

2. Civics have no torque. Like none. They're not fun to drive because of this.

3. High priced: For a new civic you could have a turbocharged R/T Neon. Which would you prefer?

4. Expensive parts: Look up any part for a civic, then do the same for a neon. Neon wins there too.

Go test drive a Dodge Neon Manual, 5spd. Any version. SOHC, DOHC, R/T, ACR. Then go get a ride in that lowly civic.
