Right. So, exactly WHO'S responsibility was it to inform me of the fact that Tom Waits put TWO new records out a couple of weeks back? Hmmm? TWO week. TWO weeks, people. This is, quite simply, not the way we operate. Unacceptable.
People, People, Puh-LEASE! We must ALL work to live up to our responsibilities... to realize our full potential.
I mean, HOW am I expected to WORK under these conditions?
Look. There's Mean Max, and there's Happy Max (and then, of course, there's Timo, but we have not quite identified that particular personality yet). What do we want? Mean, cranky, misanthropic Max? Is that what we want?
Well.
FORTUNATELY, I stumbled on the information MYSELF in the course of a pithy lyric search. It is OK, I am listening NOW, disaster and general malcontent averted.
I trust that, when P. Gabriel and KC have new offerings, we will not have to go through this unpleasantness again...

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

Tom Waits put out two new records recently? And I thought we were all friends here!

It's that coffee thing again isn't it, max?

Well, Tom Waits for no man.

Sorry. But, he was great in Mystery Men.

Talk about falling down on the job...

I thought "The Future" was Leonard Cohen's latest. Nobody ever tells me anything.

BTW: how many song titles on the new Waits stuff contain the word mule? I'm on a personal TW embargo until he can drop the mule thing. It's been done to death. Don't rag me-- it doesn't mean I don't love him. I do. In a brotherly sort of way, though, and not amorously. Not like a cell-mate, or anything. So don't go thinking that. He does look kind of good in one of those "wife beater" tank-tops, now that I think of it, though... So, who's sexier? Stella, Blanche or Stanley? That Carl Maulden guy, though.. No wonder Blanch strung him along. Trombones.

Ooop. Dropped the ball on the Leonard Cohen thing. Mea Culpa. Sorry.
Ahem. ANNOUNCING:

And

Available now at better record stores.

And Mule-isms:
ONE album title, ONE song. Mule Variations and getting behind said Mule.
We got us a Filipino Box Spring Hog, a Pony, one Chocolate Jesus and an Eyeball kid, Belly of a whale, Fish and a Bird, Fawn... nope! No more Mules!

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

I'm gonna rent me a copy of Down By Law this weekend, and hit the record store. Bye bye paycheck, it's celebration time.

BTW Dusty Springfield, Dusty in Memphis is an absolute scorcher. I know it was released in '68, but I just found out about it a couple weeks ago. Talk about uninformed. What a voice, though.

Walta Weetmann!

He-HEEEE!

As for the aesthetic pros/ cons of Mr. Waits:

"I know karate, Voodoo too
I won't make myself pretty for you
I don't need no make up
I got real scars
I got hair on my chest
I look good without a shirt

Well I don't lose my composure
In a high speed chase
My fans think I'm ugly
I got a masculine face
I got some dragstrip courage
I can really drive a bed
I'm gonna change my name
To Hannibal or maybe
Just Rex
Change my name to Hannibal
Or may be just Rex

I tink dat about sums it up...

My all-time favorite dialog:

Beningni character: "Lieef ees a starange and beyutiful thing!"

Tom Waits Character: "Buzz off."

Beningni character: "Buzzofa." "Buzzofa to you."

that's art. Jarmusch is the man.

Dammit, and I have NEVER even seen a Jaramusch (Jaramusch will he do the fandango) film. And I call myself a Waits fan. Curse my metal body!

D@mn your metal body, okay? That a reference that slipped by me. Care to elucidate?

Mystery Train is a pretty good film too. Screamin' Jay Hawkins has a wonderful cameo as a seedy flophouse hotel clerk.

Get thee to your local, independent video rental establishment, posthaste, good sir. The owl is a boot, has the devil put a sack on me?

Devil sack, indeed. Curse my metal body. Hmmmm. Let's see. No, Its origins are not immediately in my memory... but I will think of it. It has just been misfiled, you know. Dammit, my brain is a mess... AH, yes. Here we are.
Oh. Hmmm. Is it really a Star Wars reference? My goodness, why yes it is. I apologize. I have a standing policy what says I am to avoid such overt geekisms with those who are not actually standing bodily in front of me and who can obviously see that I am not a pimply faced cyberhermetnerd. I got me an image to maintain, you know.
I will certainly hie me ho to my local purveyor of video entertainment consumables as soon as my little Jawa feet can get me to it.

Star Wars? I'm disappointed. I was hoping for Futurama. Sounded like something Bender would say.

Okay, now this is completely off topic, but I just love the way Ricky Henderson plays baseball. He'll be collecting Social Security in a couple of years and tonight he sparks the rally that wins it for the Beantowners in the bottom of the 11th. The man simply makes things happen. It wasn't just that he got on base. It's the way he did it - a slow roller that barely made it past the pichers mound but he beats it out with a head-first slide for a single. That's baseball!!

if KC aren't KC and the sunshine band... who is KC?

ps. I got the P"eter "Gabriel thing. There was a second I thought it was a new P. Diddy moniker, but then I remembered, "oh yeah, I'm not 100% moron, only 95%"
When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say "live and let live."
But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

Smack, smack, and smack some more! Geez, max, I figured you'd be down with Jim like how, but you sadly disappoint me! Man, so much for you being emperor. Go git yerself some Ghost Dog and Dead Man action immediatement!
As for KC, err... they lost me. You're better off getting both John Paul Jones' solo albums, there's a man who can kick Fripp and co. asses off the stage before they even get there. I've been a fan for years, but KC just ain't got "it" anymore, IMHO.

Gabriel has sadly succumbed to the Eno/Lanois lack of dynamics production style, well, ever since "So" really. I'll give it a listen, but, hell, where's Kate Bush's new album??!

Oh, and mad props for "Going Out West," a perennial fave of the friday night Duke Of Gloucester drinking crew, patent pending.

KC are King Crimson.
TWO!!!
Reggie, now, you and I have had this little tiff afore. I am dreadfully sorry, but I just cannot accept... well, you can feel free to call me a bedwetting uninformed liberal. A Mac biased closed minded compubastard. But. I simply cannot have these various things put into the garbage bin:
KC.
PG.
TW.
JSB.
WS.
DM.
NPR.
B & T.
WSB
CM
KV.
PBS
AAPL
BRS.
WMNF.
And, of course, DL. Mmmmmmmm.
I mean, these are those what give MEANING to my existence in an otherwise bounded in a nutshell world. No, no. It simply will not do. <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" />

And while we are at it, yes, it IS true. The venerable Piltdown Man Ricky Henderson IS da man o' da moment.
I apologize for responding roughly 4 days after the initial response. But, you know, it IS a trademark of mine to respond to a thought a few days after the fact. Most call it age. I call it... something. I can't remember.

I like all the episodes, Winona included. I find the "make me a movie star" movie star and the ENDLESS drive through L.A. to be two very funny stereotypes trotted out for us to laugh at.

The way I see it, each episode has great fun with some cultural stereotype:

LA: movies and driving
NY: immigrants
Paris: colonialism and sex
Roma: sex and religion
Helsinki: gloom, stoicism and taciturness

Funny stuff.
