What is apple had made the iPod compatible for the PC as well. I think sales would be even higher than they are now. How would you feel; happy, angry, would you care? Do you think it'd be good for apple?

they'd sell a ton of units. so that would be good for apple, but then there would be no incentive for buying a mac if all of apple's stuff was available for PC and most of apple's revenues comes from computer sales and not sales of iPods.

correct me if I'm wrong please.

Good question: If you were a PC user, and never owned a Mac, would you then buy a Mac just to use the iPod?

I doubt that I would.
- MacBook Air M2 16GB / 512GB
- MacBook Pro 16" i9 2.4Ghz 32GB / 1TB
- MacBook Pro 15" i7 2.9Ghz 16GB / 512GB
- iMac i5 3.2Ghz 1TB
- G4 Cube 500Mhz / Shelf display unit / Museum display

i think it has something to do with demand
(as well as the obvious part about the mac platform, mentioned previously)
because, well, they're selling these kiddos like hotcakes,
and (at least in tokyo) they run out about every four days...

(which is brilliant)
but seriously, the real question is...
do i care?

(and yes, i know a kid who's contemplating buying one even though he's got a pc,
and one kid who's wanting one though he's got no comp!?!)

brilliant device.
worth the cash, no question.

junior (new roomie) walked in today and asked how many megs of memory ipod had...
told him "gigs, kid, gigs".

stunned look on his face quite funny.

love ipod.
love ipod.
love ipod.

(you do.)

Didn't I hear somewhere a while ago that someone made a hack to download MP3s into an iPod from a PC? If anyone has any links about this, please let us know.

I have a friend who is a PC user, but would buy an iPod in a New York minute if he could get drivers for it.

what apple really should have done is, IMHO, is increase the battery life or make it possible to use external AA batteries...

and although I'm a PC user, I think it's a fair decision not to make the unit compatible with PCs but I've heard of ppl using it on their PCs with emulators...

btw, I'm a faithful MD user myself...

you love it.

have used mds for years.
can be found as vocal supporter of md recorders on earlier md vs mp3 threads
but
when sony said they'd only support windows w/ new high speed mp3->md dubbing
and apple released ipod...

went ipod.
so glad i did.

have faith.

I too, adore the iPod's look & functionality but "10hrs of battery life" just sucks... newer MD models have over 100 hrs of battery life plus ability to use an external battery...

iPod would have no competitors if it had that...

i hear that. i love md battery life.
but truthfully, i use mine, (ipod) i leave it running ALL DAY and it's fine.

what more do i need?

i've never, ever run out the battery, and i do leave it run while i work, everything.
it's pretty sick.

and jesus, how much easier is recording/choosing what to hear?!

plus, it never, ever skips. even new md players, when i jump off a building, they skip.
not ipod.

(have tested this... )

(do love recordable quality of md players... am or used to be sound designer, so that was key)

(crazy kids, they've pretty much convinced the world they're invincible)

making me laugh, it's all worthwhile.
