Not that it would change my vote, but shouldn't Jim Morrison be on the list too? Not that he's really dead, mind you. But for as much as he's done for us lately, he might as well be.

there's so many to choose from, thanks to our popular drug culture, and the odd plane crash or two.

I'd have to list 'em in this order:

Kevin Gilbert
John Bonham
SRV (goddam fine human being)
Bonn Scott
Lowell George

And yes,
John Lennon
Gerry Garcia
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Joey Ramone
Karen Carpenter
Marvin Gaye
Dusty Springfield
George Harrison
Keith Moon
Brian Jones
Ronnie Lane
Buddy Holly
Richie Valens
Patsy Cline
Rick Danko
Roy Orbison...

Need I go on?

What about Lane Staley from Alice in Chains?

Not that he's the one I miss most, but no one's mentioned him yet. And he was pretty cool (in the non-strung out ways).

Although he's not dead, just not making music anymore, and I guess not technically a 'Rock Star', I still really miss Cat Stevens...

I heard him on a song a few years back (written about Bosnia) and he can still sing as well as ever...I just wonder what other classics he could have produced in the last 20 odd years...

Peace,

Marc

What about Falco??

They laughed at my Mac, it had no CLI. They laughed at Linux, it had no GUI. I installed MacOS X, and shut them up.

Actually, when famous musician's die, the radio tends to go nuts with their stuff. Whenever I wish some particularly horrid "artist" would go away, I don't wish death upon them, but rather that they'd convert to Islam.

Sammy Hagar, Eddie Veder and Axl Rose can convert and move to Egypt whenever they'd like... and may they live to be 100 thereafter. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Syd Barret. I know he isn't dead, but the Syd Barret of the old Pink Floyd is as good as dead. The man who lives on now is a far different person. Such great talent, gone!

Plenty who went well before their time (Lennon, Hendix, Joplin, Morrison, etc.), but the one I miss most is definitely Zappa. Apart from his great body of music, he was an arch-satirist, the kind that society sorely needs more of IMO...

I guess as well as my earlier comments, I could add Jerry Garcia to the list.

I have listened to the Dead for as long as I can remember, and although not unexpected, Jerrys' death was to me, a real tragedy....I still drink a toast to him every year....

Marc

(Looking at other peoples comments, I have to agree with Elvis and especially Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I guess there are also a good few other Blues guitarists that could be mentioned as well such as Albert Collins, Freddie King, and Rory Gallagher...)
