Initially OSX creates a little idon nest to the trashcan which is merely
a link to the OSX website. This icon has accidently been deleted.
Is there a way to create a new one?

Go to "http://www.apple.com/macosx" in your browser.
Drag the URL from the address bar to the desktop.

URLs can be created by dragging them out of any text, not just the browser's address bar.

So you can drag the address from the post above (without the ""s)

Oh, by the way the taskbar is called the dock in Mac OS X.
