Well, I'm taking a week's vacation for the first time in well over two years.

Currently, the family budget is tight, so traveling is out of the question.

For entertainment, I'm planning to rent a bunch of DVDs and videogames and maybe read a book or two. And, of course, read the MacNN forums.

So, can anyone suggest any other fun things to do while I'm on vacation?

Oh, and preferably suggestions that are a) legal and b) inexpensive?

heheh....sometimes that's the best thing. i took a 2 week trip to switzerland and when i got home i *really* needed a holiday to catch up on the sleep.

W.E.E. - when you say "family budget" what do you mean, like how many in this "family" do you need to entertain?

Me. The wife. And 1.5 children (baby #2 is due in January, which is one of the reasons we are broke).

Oh, and two cats.

ah yes, and keeping the diverse interests of everyone amused at the same time on a budget....quite the challenge. renting movies and games is pretty good, but you don't want to get "cabin fever" either....there must be some stuff in your town that that you've always wanted to do.....tourist in your own town. and there is always the old stand-by's like picnic (beach or park, whatever you've got nearby) or even a couple days out camping if you're so inclined....just as long as you all get out for a bit.....

at least 2 cats are fairly easy to amuse cheaply - at least mine are.

One of the best vacations I ever enjoyed happened earlier this year... 2 straight weeks off...

You know what I did? Nothing.

Somtimes I woke up early and bought a paper, went to Denny's and had a Grand Slam breakfast.

Other days I woke up at 2PM, took a shower, watched some TV, then walked down to a nearby bar.

Other days I didn't do anything at all.

Why was it one of the best vacations I ever had? Because I did it for myself. I didn't let other people's agenda dictate my life.
