I have recently installed an ATi Radeon 8500 Display Card into my two-year-old Mac, yet I cannot shut it down because the monitor will black out. I can only deal with it by pressing a black button somewhere near the display card for a few seconds to reset the motherboard.
I cannot afford to do this everytime, and want to know from you all if there is any way to tackle the problem completely, enable me to shut down and start up without any problem?

Thanks ahead!

are you using the latest drivers? Also, if you're using a Mac Edition, you can use the ROM flashing apps from the Ati website. If you're using a flashed PC Radeon, go visit the Flashed Radeon Successess thread and find a link for the older ROM flashing apps and flash the card for a different speed.

Where in the website can I find the ROM Flashing App from ATi? I am using a Mac edition card (So eXpensive!) Can you post the link here?
Would the problem be solved if I update my driver to the latest release of 0702?

i'm using a flashed PC 8500 in my 450 with no problems. here's a link to the latest ati rom for the 8500:

i think this will solve your problem, because look at what was fixed in this latest ROM update:

http://ati.com/support/infobase/4021.html

i'd also update to the latest drivers. here's a list of the latest 8500 mac drivers.
