So Harmonix announced it was bringing back Rock Bad a month or two back. Naturally, Activision is brining back Guitar Hero, to make sure to oversaturate the market.

There's also the modding community, which has come up with some pretty cool stuff already. I'm currently using a Portland map with around 70 mods/buildings. As a result, my Portland has way too many In-N-Out Burgers and way too few independent hipster coffee houses.

It was the same in the Maxis one, the problem was the AI was ****ed.
There's no better representation of the life of the city in the traffic. And there's no better measure of success or failure in how well it flows.

Yep. Yep. And maybe.
I know someone was working on a mod for a hanging-style monorail. Not sure what those are called.

The level of actual road design was pitiful in SC5 compared to Skylines.

I've taken about 50 screenshots in C:S, and for the life of me, I can't figure out where my PC is saving them. I've googled it to smithereens without any luck.

Looks like Skylines is barely playable on my Air. Currently backing it up as I need to upgrade to 10.9… Not sure if I'll take the plunge.

Jawbone, how long would you say Journey took you to finish? Is it the sort of game you can play again and again?

Oh, the couple 'negatives' I've noticed about skylines from watching videos: The buildings all look kind of samey. It's very bland and I don't think the sky scrapers are that huge or varying. Second, the terrain basically looks like a huge flat land, as opposed to SimCity which had very variable land.

Oh, on a copyright tangent, I find it maddening that Bethesda got notch to back down on the scrolls trademark, but Cities: Skylines is ok even though I get confused as hell since there's also Cities: XL which has zero relation.
Though I suppose my ire should be directed at the dev for such a terrible name. (But can I come up with a better one?)

Two hours or so.
It definitely has replay value, but the first playthrough was one of my three gaming experiences of my life.

Guys, please keep an eye on the size of inline images. Rule is 1024 pixels wide, so if wider, shrink them or make a link. This thread currently crashes my iPad, and I suspect it's because of the JS that has to run to shrink the images.

Think it might have been the Star Wars screenshot. I'll figure out how to resize.
As for the promised "must" mods, I was delayed because of a sudden out-of-town obligation. Here goes...
The MUSTS:
Clear and Bright (This is an LUT) - Gives the game a much better look.
City Vitals Watch
Traffic Report Tool 1.4
Automatic Bulldoze - Without it, bulldozing buildings is a part-time job.
Extended Road Upgrade
Extended Public Transport UI
No More Purple Pollution (Brown Grass) - Because the default pollution is ridiculous.
All Spaces Unlockable
Chirpy Exterminator - Because Chirpy sucks.
Fill the Houses - The game doesn't fill residential complexes for some reason. They always stay at 80%. This fixes that.
Other good ones:
Electricity Substation - For providing small amounts of electricity to remote locations.
Garage / Parking Lot with 64 slots - You can imagine how useful this is.
Emerald UI - A moderate improvement of the UI.
Tree Brush - Self-explanatory.
Tim Hortons - Because it's so much better than Starbucks.
DP's ________ - Take your pick out of his many building mods.
Medium Football Stadium - Because, beautiful game.
Baseball Field - Because, Cracker Jacks.

Best part of this game? Being able to putz around with roads, destroying your current set-up, then deciding "this isn't going to work" and just reloading the save. *glares at SimCity*

I'm really curious to see what your road system is going to look like. Post screens when you've got it worked out.
I've tested out several different ideas, and haven't stumbled across one that completely alleviates freight truck traffic. About to go insane.

Yup, my farm land is not dealing well with the raw traffic. I tried to alleviate it by adding a freight depot, but all I've done is concentrate the damage. Luckily a possible solution hit me out of the blue this morning.

Borderlands creator has left Gearbox for "adventure time". It appears the split was amicable, and he did not want to churn out yet another sequel.

A lot of people didn't like the Pre-Sequel and said it was just a money grab. While I think it is a bit short, the class selection is favorite of the franchise.

It makes a kind of sense. The forest might cause horrible navigation issues. Or maybe they become OP when they have complete freedom.

I just hope they can capture some of the magic of the first two games. It was the shooter series that I excelled at.

Unfortunately (and incomprehensibly), I missed the first two, which is why I'm really, really hoping this one doesn't suck.
I actually picked up the second one in a Star Wars Humble Bundle, but I understand that it's really only playable with bots these days.

Valve now enables mod makers to sell their creations on Steam - PC Gamer
Oh crap. Looks like mods are going to be treated like official DLC now, with Steam taking a 75% cut of the money. Okay, I like the idea of a tip jar for people to have the option to pay for mods if they like, but requiring payment just smacks of greed and will force mods to torrent sites. In fact, I went and looked and PB is now being flooded with new mod torrents. Not to mention how packed Steam will be now with copycats and garbage mods as people scramble to try and cash in on this. Wow. WTG Gabe, didn't you realize this would happen? You're smarter than this.

It is not required to charge for them - you can still make your mods for free if you want to.

It's required if the author puts a price on it, and it seems all the skyrim mods are going to a must pay model. The sheer volume of people ripping stealing others' work and calling it their own is staggering.

Steam Workshop lets users sell mods, but only shares 25 percent of revenue | Ars Technica
A creator can still leave their wares on the service as freebies, or they can choose either a static price or a "pay what you want" structure. Should a buyer not be satisfied with a mod, they can request a refund within 24 hours of purchase.
Looks optional unless ars missed something.
Skyrim is the first—and currently only—Steam game where users can bypass the game's developers and sell their add-ons without any creative approval. (Should an unethical modder try selling other users' Skyrim creations via this updated Steam Workshop, they can file a DMCA Takedown Notice directly through Valve's site.)
Money-making modders will have to wait until they've earned at least $100 of sales before receiving a payment (and, as stated above, Valve will only pay modders in US dollars).
That's scummy.
The biggest problem, as you've alluded to, is what happens when people make similar mods and one person makes it free. The incentive to ban that mod is too high. The situation also reminds me of Nintendo and Youtube, where Nintendo is taking the revenue from Let's Plays simply because they published the game, ignoring that the content of the LP is made by the user (as in this case the mod is made by someone else). Both seem to ignore that in each case the person is making their game more attractive which benefits the company.
I'm also concerned this will turn into a DRM situation where publishers make it harder to mod their games without Steam mods somehow.
So while the initial idea was good, the execution is as trash as it gets. Let's hope this doesn't get remembered as fundamentally changing how PC gaming functions.

You can't go free if competitors are charging, as you said, your projects will be kicked in favor of those that generate revenue.

and that's what all the modders have become now, competitors, whereas before they were all sharing and happily working together. This is like throwing a smoke bomb in a room full of children. A "tip jar" would have been brilliant, maybe even give an incentive for people to leave large tips, but hard pricing is just bad.
