This is what I think Apple is doing. Getting these into the channels is more important than dealing with BTO machines. That is why stores have been receiving them...they are filling the channels first.

Right now I'm not very happy with Apple. The Cinema display shipped but the computer hasn't. I've called 5 times today and received a different reason each time. The last I heard is that the free printer is on back order and my computer was gonna be held until it shipped. So my order was changed so that each item ships as available. The Cinema was on a separate order otherwise it would not have shipped. It has been 4 business days but Apple doesn't count the first day. So to Apple today is day 3 and it will ship tomorrow or Friday. When I ordered it I was told I would have it Friday, one week from the day I ordered it. Apple does not offer overnight or Saturday delivery, which delays it to next Monday or Tuesday. The only reason I ordered the 733 is cause I didn't wanna wait 2-4 weeks for delivery. I could have went to my local Apple store today and picked up the system, but Apple has put a hold on my account for the funds.

Hi, just ordered basically a stock 733 with the processor upgraded to the 867 Mhz, hope that doesn't slow it down as much as it seems, but right now being told the usual 4-6 weeks. We'll see how it goes.

I ordered a dual 800 a few hours ago. 5-7 weeks until it ships. Of course, I'm hoping for sooner but I doubt it. I may go insane if it takes more than 5 weeks.

Now it shows partially shipped. I'm assuming this means the computer has shipped but not the printer.

So how does one tell what the updated shipping time is? The Order Status page will only who if an item has shipped or not. I guess another question would be, when all the small items ship, software, monitor etc, what happens when they start buliding your machine? Does the status change from partially shipped to Being assembled...

What can I say I'm dying to get my hands on my new machine This old motorola clone just ain't cutting it anymore. It's going to be sheer torture staring at this Cinema Display waiting for the new machine to arrive...

But it is a reminder that the new machine is coming

I have a buddy that works at Apple (not in executive or engineering way) so he has no information whatsoever on new products. But he DOES work in the customer service department. Apple has not even gone to production yet on the G4 867's...they will next week. So if you got your order in rather early it should ship by next week or at the latest, the week after next.

Supposedly they made initial runs for the Apple retail stores and some select retailers. There may be some production happening but the major ramp up will not happen until next week. Anyway, I just ordered my G4 867 from here. and it will arrive on Saturday. If you can I suggest you order from them since they have some in stock. There is no tax unless you live in Oregon and what they charge for shipping is far less than what you pay for tax at the Apple Store. BTW: I ordered the 867 from them with the CD-RW drive...they are an Apple Specialist and can order BTO machines. I asked how they received these machines so fast and the woman I spoke with said that they were completely screwed with the iBooks and had a lot of cancelled orders because of it, so Apple made it up to them by sending them these machines very quickly.

The local reseller has 2 867's right now and has sold 8 since MWNY.

They seem to have no problem getting them, although they have way more 733's (like more than a dozen)

I was going to get a dual 800 with *lots* of goodies, but I decided to wait until september. I will have the temporary use of an iBook for now so I can afford to wait. Its too bad though cause I really was looking forward to getting my powermac ASAP. I was hoping for more from Macworld. I will be ok with an iBook in the meantime.

AppleCello: The $3,000 733 is now the low-end $1699 unit. What more do you want from MWNY? A blowjob?! Christ! (Yes, it lacks cache, etc...)

Hmmm... I had second thoughts about my order today... I phoned up Apple and decided to change the Geforce 2 MX to a Geforce 3... If I'm going to seriously use this machine partly for gaming, why get it with a video card that's over a year old, when you can get it with a 5 (?) month old video card. The games with Geforce 3 optimization will be coming out within 6 months time, and I'll have to upgrade and spend more cash.

I also ordered my BTO Mac last Saturday, but have seen nothing on the order status web page, and the over the phone order status is even less helpful. I want mine to ship soon, just like dream1mac;'s did.

Bodhi: I see your Info window there shows CL3 RAM. I was glad to see, in the Apple store, that the 867's they had (with two 128MB DIMM's each) were CL2. I was assuming this is what Apple was shipping.

Is one of those SIMM's one that you added?? Is it CL3 (3-2-2 speed)? I paid more for a 2-2-2 512MB DIMM ($125 vs. $70) to get it the faster CL2 to add to the system.

Please let us know!

The RAM I added was 3-2-2 but I would bet my ass that Apple isn't shipping these machines with 2-2-2, maybe just on the Apple Stores demo machines.

I am going to sell both of these dimms though and buy one Techworks 512 PC133 2-2-2 dimm. Anyone want these two dimms?

Darn, I ordered my machine a day before bodhi, and he's already got it. I sure hope I don't have to wait much longer for mine to finish assembly. I bet it's the new 80GB hard drive that's holding it up. I can't stand waiting for new toys.

Anybody knows (a good site) where to find some cheap good quality 512 Mb CL2 memory dimms for my dual 800 (... not having it yet )?
p.s: i'm in europe, so i need a manufacturer that ships internationally

Ordered my custom 867 last Friday (7/20). Swapped CD-RW for SuperDrive, added a SCSI card. I got the "shipped" e-mail almost to-the-hour one week later, late this Friday evening.

Woohoo! Opted for faster shipping, so I should have it tomorrow or Tuesday.

We ordered ours today!

We BTO'd a SCSI card, but I hope that doesn't slow the order down much.

And we're getting a 512MB chip too, but not from Apple. Now we just have to figure out which monitor to buy. We want a 19", but want to keep it to around $400. Hopefully below. Neither of us are graphic designers, but we don't want to look at a crappy picture on our new baby either. Any suggestions?

One more question: What's a country kit desktop?

Wow Bodhi, very nice setup. Looks really impressive. I'd maybe use one of those velcro wraps or something so you wouldn't see the power cords under the desk...

Geesh Bodhi,

I'd love to have either one of your Macs right now. I'm currently stuck using an AMD Duron 750 box while I await my dual 800...oh the agony!

Yeah, waiting for the dualies is terrible. I'm stuck on my beige knowing that I have already spent money on a new computer, yet I don't see any squeaky-clean tower in front of me. I'm still typing on my ADB keyboard mouse, oh the agony!

"Status going back a step"

If your status goes back a step (say, from "Being Assembled" to Being Reviewed")
You should call Apple's Credit Dept. @ (800) 676-2775 Ext. 55200 to see what happened
to your order. They are not likely to call you soon to let you know what the problem was.

My order status went back a step last Saturday and called them today (Monday) to see
what was going on. Turns out that the debit card I used had a daily spending limit (even
though it had money to cover the purchase). I requested a temporary increase, called
Apple back and boom, my status went back to "Being Assembled". The rep. said it should
ship out within 48hrs.

MY ORDER:

POWER MAC G4 CTO $ 2,570.00
Power Mac G4 065-2839
867MHz PowerPC G4 065-2873

250MB Zip drive 065-2957

NVIDIA GeForce2MX w/32MB SDRAM 065-3023
No Radeon PCI card 065-2348
No Ultra SCSI PCI card 065-1695
No Modem 065-1245

Im putting it all on my dad's AmEx. That way I can pay it all off at once, while still having the benefits of the power to dispute problems, withhold payments, etc. This is just for flexibility. Im placing my order when 10.1 is the defualt OS. hopefully in September. CANT WAIT.

I finally spoke to someone at apple store that gave me a better ship date. They said it would take no more than 2-4 weeks from today. That would bring the total time up to 3-5 weeks. Better than before, and I hope it gets even better than that. I wish I didn't have to wait for that 80GB drive, but I need the space and already have a 15GB drive that I want to add. And I don't want to get a 60GB and at 20GB more later, since 3 internal drives is just too much.
