I think I understand this position. It has to do with maintaining the American Dream: if government restricts big oil's ability to take advantage of our dependence on oil, then it restricts the average person's Dream of Making It Big someday.

I think he's also talking about how some fear big government, so they allow big corporations to thrive, and some fear big corporations, so they want big government.
